Dist. parts

I have a 84 GSL with a 12a. I need to replace the dist. cap and roter. Is there any certain brand that is better then the rest. It has a Boush on it now as that is what was on it when I bought the car. The motor is stock and it just needs a tuneup. Any info will be appreceiated

Hit up your local NAPA... good quality, good price.. they offer two seperate lines of electrical products, Mileage Plus (which is the cheaper of the two) and Echlin. I worked in a NAPA warehouse, and honestly, I don't think there is a difference between the two lines, other than price. Anyways, the part numbers you need are:
Mileage Plus
Distributor Cap: MPE EP690SB
Rotor: MPE EP691SB

Regular Echlin
Distributor Cap: ECH MP690
Rotor: ECH MP691

Hope this helps...

I'm partial to the bigger brand names when it comes to car parts. Usually shows they've been around longer.

Bosch and Borg/Warner are big makers of those parts among others. I don't have part numbers off hand, but I do know I have a Bosch on mine now.

You could also try getting an OEM part from the dealership. The price may kill you though. It depends on the intellect of the parts dept staff whether the transaction gets that far though.

Witchever brand you get make sure it has the good qaulity copper inserts. I've found the aluminum ones to wear out and corrode alot quicker. That's why I always use the OEM cap and rotor.

I agree with revhead, I am only using original parts because the aftermarket aluminum contacts wear out much faster.
