What is this thing worth?...
Sorry, I realize this is probably the wrong thread to ask this question but...
I have a 12A engine and 5 speed trans out of an '85 Rx7 (see photos). I am getting ready to sell the car and I am trying to put a price on it. It is a '74 Triumph Spitfire. My question to you guys is what is the 12A engine (less the racing beat intake and exhaust) worth and what is the trans worth? The motor and trans do not leak and do not use oil. Trans works perfectly and has a good clutch in it. Motor and Trans run very good and pull hard! I do not know how many miles are on the motor since the rebuild but given the performance of the motor I would guess not many.
Please let me know your thoughts...
Thanks
Bill

Here are a couple of videos of the engine:

Let me know what you think the motor and trans is worth. Thank you.

Ha! You made me curious about this type of swap...a 12A into a Spitfire. It seems like it's a popular thing to do...and reading Wikipedia I can see why. The Mark IV 1.3L inline 4 cylinder engine was rated at 63 HP! The curb weight at ~1700 pounds is about 500 less than a 1st gen RX7. That thing must be a lot of fun to drive! I saw some that had 13B's swapped in as well.
Neat.
Edit: You should post a video of it starting/running.

Confused. You are looking for the value of the drivetrain on its own? So you are selling it separately? Or are you trying to determine the value of the Spit with the 12A intact??
On their own, a running (but you need to prove it to buyer) 12A with good tranny (again, tougher to prove sitting on the floor) prob worth $1K-2K? But very limited market (local) since shipping would be $$$. Crap shoot, since you may not have many buyers...
If you are asking how much + this enhances the value of the Spit. Would think not much. Purists - and many of the Unwashed who fear old rotary engines, will pay less than a stock car...

Take a look at your spitfire and see what Hagerty would price it at in the same condition, then subtract a significant amount cause it has a rotary in it. Like many $1,000 of dollars I would bet. Folks in the market for a spit don't want a rotary in it.
