what should i be running?

in the 1/4 mile with my 84 GSL-SE 13b 1/2 BP, fed by a holley 650, 75 HP shot of the good stuff, 3.90 rear end gears, and a staight through exhaust, and medium compound tires? without the NOS?

all that is great but do you know what you are puttin down to the ground, are you a good driver, do you have weight reduction. stock the car runs 16's i think so it would be faster than that!

Well, assuming an average driver and no weight reduction, I think you could run a high 13 to low 14. The GSL-SE is the porker of the 1st gens, so that isn't helping you at all. In stock form, a GSL-SE can run a mid 16 with an average driver, high 16 if its your first time, and a low 16 if your a real good driver. I figure you've probably got 250hp at the rear wheels with the nitrous, 180 without. So, without the nitrous, I think you would run a high 14.

forgot to mention... removed a/c and power steering, 17x7.5 motegi alloy wheels, ceramic clutch, and an average reaction time of .503 on a sportsmans class tree. thanks for the HP estimates.

well first off what kind of shape is the LSD unit in? are both wheels spinning? or is one winning out over the other.

also your launch is another factor. as is your tires.

i run the factory 14 size on my GSLSE. granted i dont drag that car as i have a turbo II for such a purpose, but the 17 inch wheels are killing the acceleration. get a wider set of wheels and nice tires and learn to launch the car.

im spinning both wheels, so the LSD is workin pretty good. maybe some 15" wheels and some sticky rubber might help? when i launch, i run up to about 6500, and dont dump the clutch, but dont really roll off of it either. maybe im ******* up there? any pointers?

You don't need to be reving up that high. I would suggest dumping the clutch at 4000, mabey even as low as 3000. Also, be careful with how sticky your tires are, the stock rear end can't handle too much abuse when you start getting into the mid to upper 200hp range. IIRC, directfreak blew up a stock GSL-SE rear end on only 330hp and drag radial on the first launch with the drag radials. They were skinny ones too, only 225 wide.

thanks 85, i'll try the lower RPMs next time im at the track. when (not if) i destroy the rear end, it'll give me an excuse to swap a ford 8.8. then i'll be able to boost her (gonna do that anyways). then i'll get stupid and blow my engine. but not yet. should i just dump the clutch or roll off it?

You'll wanna turbo your engine if you want to run the 8.8. The internals are soo much heavier than the stock rear end. Directfreak is using an 8.8 and I remember him saying that he thinks he's loosing almost 80hp just from the rear end, but thats at nearly 500hp.
