Cheap Rebuild?
Cheap Rebuild?
Is there such a thing? My 12a has 110,000 miles on it, and it smokes on startup and keeps smoking a little while it runs. Do it have to do a full blown rebuild to freshen it up? Even if my housings are a little scratched, could I just replace all of the cheaper seals and springs without buying new apex seals? If I have to spend $1500 or $2000 to rebuild my motor then i'm probably just going to drive it until it dies. Thanks in advance.

if you are going to keep a first gen that needs fixing.. be prepared to spend lots of money on it. what color is the smoke? if it is a blue puff at startup, it is normal because rotaries burn oil to keep the internals lubricated, plus the engine is still cold. if it is white and you smell a sweet smell then it is coolant and it might be coming from your intake manifold where there are coolant seals which will require a re-sealing i believe. good luck and welcome to the forum

You can get by with just replacing the parts that need to be replaced. Example would be if the Apex seals are within the acceptable tolerences then there is no need to replace them. You will need the gasket set to reassemble the motor and that can set you back about $175.00 not to mention whatever else it is that you will be replacing. Good luck!
