what should I do next? Need to shave at least 0.4 seconds off my 1/4...

like the title says, I need to shave at least 0.4 seconds off my quarter mile time. My best run was 14.87 @ 96.4 MPH with barely enough gas to finish the run. I want it to be 14.5 or faster. I'd prefer not to got forced induction, rebuild the engine, or use spray. My currect mods are: Racing beat air cleaner, racing beat holly 600 cfm carb, racing beat intake, stockport (I believe, it was bought used and recently rebuilt) 13b 6 port, stock tranny with stock clutch, Short shifter, accel race wires, NGK plugs, electric fan, racing beat header, custom exhaust, an aviation grade fuel pump, 83 rear end with limited slip differential, 83 LE 14 inch rims, sumitomo HTR 200 205/60/r 14s. My timing is advanced 15 degrees for the time being (it's stuck there, and I haven't unstuck it yet, but will), and my car has full interior. Without gutting it for weight savings, whats the cheapest and most effective way to shave off those .4 seconds? Pulleys? Flywheel? Clutch? Electric? Lighter seats? Other weight reduction? Gears? What is your opinion?

Well youve said you didnt want to do any of the mods you need to get there. Id say try a clutch and a flywheel setup, maybe some stickier tires and outside of that, gutting the interior is the only other way I see it happening if you dont want spray forced induction or rebuild. Also, try this http://www.mazspeed.com/msd.htm It might help you tease a few extra hp out along with smooth out the power.

Remove the spare and jack, you will not notice it when its missing. Throw on some lexan windows if you can find them. I remember them being on a site somewhere. Also, put your battery in your storage bins. Not weight savings, but it will be more weight over the rear axle.

Describe your exhaust. Is it oversized?

Plan on upgrading your ignition to direct fire?

I never really understood direct fire, does it make that much of a diference? My exhaust is restrictive, but mostly just to keep noise down. I'll likely go to a full RB setup next year.

It wont make a HUGE difference, but it will help. And yes to the full RB setup. For some reason I read that you already had an exhaust. RB imo is the best all around for performance and sound, though it is $$$. Actually, I have a spare streetport system sitting around, though its for a 12A...

What kind of 60ft times are you getting? That will tell us alot about your traction situation. I am running my GSL-SE/TII swap at the local 1/8 mile tracks and found that my tires make a huge impact on my 60ft times. Running 215/60-14's Indy 500's, my 60 ft times were between 2.3 and 2.5 with my 1/8th mile times varying between 9.51 and 10.50. With my BFGoodrich Drag Radial's in the same size on another pair of SE rims, my 60ft times dropped to about 2 flat and my 1/8 ETs fell to 8.9-9.0. There is your half-second. The 215/60-14 BFGoodrich's should work on the LE rims(5.5" width right?).

The difference from direct fire is noticeable. You'll like it.

Yes, get the RB exhaust. It will still be quiet enough to not arouse complaints, but will outflow pretty much anythng else in that dB range.

add a MSD or 2nd gen coil, or both.
get stickier tires, street radials
stage your suspension, when youre on the line have your clutch right on the edge. then pull up your e brake and let out on your clutch a little more. youll feel your car lean forward. when its time to go drop the gas and ebrake and go! i did this and it made a huge difference.

2nd gen coil for leading with 2nd gen leading plugs or RX-8 finewire plugs or the sidegap modded plugs.

Are you running the 6 port actuators? If you are I would install some of pineapples racing inserts, they have noticed differences in their 1/4 times with those sleeves.
Make sure you are using low octane fuel also.

Weight reduction as Jeezus stated. If the spare is in there remove it. You could also remove the passenger seat for the runs.

Other than that gearing will get you there. A set of 4:44 or 4:78. :-)
