What kind of trim is my 7?
What trim is this thing? Most of the other first generation 7's I see around have a thick black rubber looking trim. Why does mine have a thin metal one?

EDIT: It doesn't look aftermarket at all. I can't see any traces of any other kind of attachment. I've looked inside the door.

Nope. It is screwed in. There is backing on the inside of the doors. I can't see any other protrusions on the inside of the sheet metal of the automobile.

Man... I've been google searching for a while now. I've seen this trim before, but IDK where. It might be universal aftermarket, but whatever the case it was done well. Because I don't see any remnants of the OE stuff inside or out.

if you have a 79-80 S model, it would not have had any trim stock

IIRC, JC Whitney used to sell that style of 'universal trim' back in the 70's and 80's.
Went out of style a long time back, but was very popular for cars that didn't have factory 'door ding' protection. Cut-to length trim with separate screw-mounted end caps.
It was very similar to OEM trim found on a lot of domestic cars at the time.

I use 3M double sided adhesive, it's for molding, emblems etc, if you try and take it back off you just about swear your going to peel the sheet metal lol

I have an aerosol can with 3M adhesive I used for my upper vinyl on my door panels, worked awesome.
Never seen that trim before but I kind of like it, has a different look to it. I can't stand my sun faded thick black strip on my FB and want to rip it off but as previously stated, it's hard to get off - not counting the sticky stuff you have to pick off. And the "door ding" protection is also a major plus.
I'd say leave it, it's original and looks good!

Nothing wrong with that look; it's 'period appropriate.'
It might even have been dealer installed; dealers in the 80's routinely did a lot of customizations to boost margin. Some good, some not; many not 'factory authorized.'
