Mobil 1, it's the only way to go.

 

Oil filters dont make your oil turn black!. Try changing your oil more often!.

 

I use Canadian Tire Motomaster Formula 1.
Less money than Fram, and way better.
'Course you gotta live here in Canada to get 'em...

 

Anyone else use the K&N oil filter? I just put one in today, seems to be much better construction compared with the Fram I had on previously.

 

mobil 1 if I got the dough. AC DELCO if I do not.

 

I used Duetche for a long time, better than Fram I think. I started running a Mobil1 in my FC and could swear I noticed a difference. Running OEM in my FB right now though.

I didn't know the fuel filter made much difference. However, I have a second inline filter up by the carburator as well ever since I got a bad tank of gas that clogged my carb. Now its just twice as many filters to change but good preventive maintaince never the less

 

i use the x2,its the best looking filter out there,
normally it doesnt matter,but on a rex its right there in plain view,
might as well get one that looks good.

And BTW everyone, I just picked up a 'Boa Constrictor' strap-type wrench. Looks like it should work PERFECT for taking off my oil filter. I'm doing my next oil change tommorow, so I'll let you all know

 

I use the factory mazda oil filter which is used also on my Protege5, there only like 5 dollars each.

 

I use Wix now on everything. They are the best, in my opinion. I started using them after I got my Gravely.

 

I'm running a purolator filter (I use the PureOne's, but couldn't find one lat oil change, so I dropped down to the plain ol purolator) for an 85 626. It's about 2x the height of the stock one. I really am not too picky on brand, cuz I change the oil about every 2k miles or so. I run castrol GTX, usually 10w30, oh and a quart of MMO for good measure (summer car only)

I usually only use Mazda filters, but when I run out of my supply it's Canadian Tire all the way.

I use the mazda filter and beleive it or not it is also the same filter that goes in my Protege5 as well.
Iwas getting an oil change on the Protege5 the other day and the guy at the oil place asked why I didnt just uses there oil filter instead of buying mine from the dealer , so I told him that I did not want to use the aftermarker filter they carried and he told me the same company that makes there filter make the one I got from the dealership, I then asked what other filters does this company make and he said Fram, Purolatore just to name two.
What do you guts think about that?

 

Ever notice that the A/C Delco has the same numbers stamped into the end as the Mobil 1? The only difference I can see is that the Mobil 1 uses a different color rubber (silicone rubber?) for the anti-drainback valve. Otherwise, they look the same, but the Mobil 1 cost more than twice as much.

 

Fram sucks that bad? Wow, I always thought the mechanics were over them. At least thats how the ads make them look...

 

I use pennzoil. I was told that when changing oil filters on first gen you are supposed to stab it with a screwdriver to release the pressure in it so it's easier to remove. Is this ture or just bullshit? I am changing my fiter this weekend and want to do it the right way.

 

82Transam - If you want the oil to drain from the filter back down into the engine, then stab it, as stated in my Mazda manual. If you want to see what happens without poking it, make sure you have a rag.

I heard that synthetic oil is bad for rotaries. Am i wrong?

 

My rotary guy told me that it is best not to use Synthetic because it does not burn correctly, and since the rotarys burn the oil it can cause build up on the plugs. He said he only uses redline or mobil one on his turbo engines and replaces the plugs much more often. He also told me to you would never want to use castrol syntech in a rotary, something about it would mess it up.

 

82TransAM - Yes, I have heard that synthetic oil shouldn't be used with the rotary. As for the specifics, I am not sure. But, from my own reasoning, I wouldn't waste my money on it just due to the nature of the rotary - it burns oil. And for the extra cost, I'd rather not have my money blowing out the exhaust pipe in gaseous form. The best advice I can give you is to just use a regular type motor oil as identified in your manual. Mine calls for 10W30 and I use Castrol GTX.

 

I use the original Mazda Filter for my SE.. when ever I can get one.. I usallt buy 3 or 4 .. providing I the loot at the time. The original filters are black.. and do have a check valve in them. Whom ever made that comment is correct. I have to change filter ever 2000 miles because of the turbo.. I'm concidering running 2 filters.
