what kind of fuel pump and fpr

i have a 1983 gsl, with the 12A. i have an aftermarket carb setup, a weber 45dcoe, my stock fuel pump isn't good enough. what kind of fuel pump should i get? i don't want to spend too much money on it, just enough so that it gets the job done and doesn't have any problems. and then what kind of fpr should i get. are these items hard to replace? any info would be great--thanx

On my Weber fed stock port 13B, I use an Airtex E8012S fuel pump, and a Mr Gasket fuel pressure regulator. Neither was terribly expensive, and both have performed flawlessly.

I forgot to mention, those items I listed I am currently using with my Weber 45 dcoe. The fuel pump can be put in near the stock location... (theres pictures on this site somewhere) And the FPR installs easily on your firewall, you want it as close to the inlet of the carb as possible to keep your pressure from changing. I installed a 0-15 psi summit pressure gauge in line between the FPR on the firewall and the carb inlet... Ill get a couple of pictures attached here for you...

Please ignore how dirty some of the engine bay is, this is after I swapped in the new motor and didn't have time to clean it up yet...

For mounting the fuel pump refer to:

Dan I prefer the 4594 pump. Its a 7-9 psi but what you suggest should work. That reg is completely wrong for a Weber. They spec 1.5-2.5 psi. That reg has a min pressure of 4 1/2 psi. I suggest the 1-4 psi version of that reg, same one we suggest for the Nikki and Sterlingcarb (summit has it). And definatley go with mounting the pump near the stock location. It will wear out prematurely and not work well if its mounted in the engine bay. As was stated, its not designed to pull from that distance.

Yea Carlos, wheres Mario? Hes slackin! I expected a full blown war by now!

If I want to use this combination instead of a stock replacement, any reason I can't.
This combination is cheaper than any stock replacement price I can get locally.

No problem running that setup at all. Here's a thread on the installation of the Carter/Holley setup, with lots of additional info.

I'd use the 4594 pump too. With the mallory 4309 fpr.

There's a Mallory 4070LP that's made specifically for Weber applications. You may be able to use it without a FPR, saving money and potential issues. I ran one for years with my 36DCDs with good results. It has an internal regulator that's preset to 4PSI, which can be changed to meet your needs.

. . . and if you're going to use a FPR, go with the Holley over the Mr. Gasket -- more durable.
