its the jumble of hoses and stuff behind the alternator. if your car is a later year than 79 or 80 it should be the blue and green and yellow plastic things (probly like 5 of em) with all the hoses and stuff looking kinda like a rats nest.

it is the term given to the ample amount of vacuum lines running across the engine, thus looking like a "rats nest". the 3rd gens are even worse with the factory sequential twin turbo system.

ohhhh ok it's all the hoses hehe I saw one of my friends change all his hoses on a 3rd gen for silicone hoses... do you think it would be worth all the hassle for a '79 RX-7? Cuz I touched mine and they're really really hard so I don't know if it's worth it...

You call that a rats nest, thats so simple. Look at the cosmo one, and thats only like 3/4 of it. You ought to see all the vacuum lines to the turbos

and what do those yellow, blue and green plastic things do? If I remove them, what will change? any performance? what do they exactly do? because I know that one is just sticking out without being attached to anything...need some more info on what they do please

They are solonoids that control different aspects of the engine (vacuum advance, secondary air system, etc.) I think if you have removed, or are going to remove the emissions equipment, that it can be removed. but if you need it to pass, it needs all of those.

Usually there is a sticker on the underside of the hood that tells you what each solonoid does.

I would only change all the hoses if your pulling them to do something else. They're probably hard, but I bet they're fused in place, so are probably air-tight. If you have to remove them, they may not seal as well which would warrent a change.

If you do change them, don't waste your $ on silicon. I know on a 2nd gen, it's like $90 worth of hose...

Rubber hose works fine for NA 7s.

Thats cause there's an infinite amount of threads for it to spool together cause this question gets asked more times than any 25 questions combined.

Actually it doesn't, people just remove it to simplify the engine bay and make it look less cluttered.
