What else..

As some of you may have read my car broke down on me Monday afternoon. Nothing big, my fuel pump went bad. Thanks to those who responded. You know who you were.
So, I replaced the pump with a aftermarket replacement. Didnt feel like waiting for a perf one to arrive. So while the car was up on the lift, I start playing with the driveshaft. Moving it and checking out how cool it is to have LSD, my car is an 85 GSLSE.
So I tell my dad to see if the driveshaft looks good, cause I keep hearing this banging noise when I take off or slow down. So, you would believe what happen. The freaking thing is broken. The front U-joint is loose. Its still attached, but it has some play. I hope that wasnt do to my burnouts at the track.
The part that really sucks is that there are like 3 or 4 driveshafts at home, but none of them fit.
SO my question to you guys now is, Which year driveshafts are interchangeable with my car, 85 GSLSE?

THANKS

I believe you CAN'T replace the U joints. You need to take it to a machine shop and have them mod it to allow replaceble U joints to be installed.

Maybe an '85 GSL might fit (12A).

I have been told by my rx-7 mechanic that to do it right you have to replace the whole driveshaft. It is possible to rebuild and rebalance it, but you have to have a machine shop do it and they probably won't get it right.

Say, what kind of noises are you getting? I feel some clunking when I shift from 1st to 2nd, as well as a general un-tight feel in the shifting....I'm suspecting the driveshaft, the tranny is brand new.

Right on-

brwonmound, the noise, one of the many noises, which i believed was the driveshaft/tranny, usually happened if i left the car in fourth gear and brake. So the car would feel like it was stalling and it and it would bang/knock a couple of times. Dont know if it was normal because of what i was doing or not.
As soon as i replace the driveshaft ill let you know if it stopped doing it.

braking in fourth, eh? does it kind of buck and surge? from what i've been told, that's pretty normal for a rotary to do. mine does it.

All the 83+ driveshafts interchange. Don't tell anyone you need it for an -SE, or they will gouge you on the price.

Same thing with my se, I sent it out and the shop didn't get it right the first time either. Since then it's been repair 3 times this year! The drive shaft has to be modified to take new u joints. Big headache but many noises and vibrations will disappear when you get this done.

Update.

I know its long but just bear with me, thanks.

Went to the autoparts yesterday. Got what was supposed to be a replacement u-joint. Went to my friends house, who had just stripped an 80. The diveshaft its the same length. Cool.
Get home look at my diveshaft look at the 80 one. Mines looks better, a little less rusty and beefier. So, me and my dad decide to change the u joint on mines. The thing didnt fit. "me caso en na' "
Ok, at least I have the one from the 80. So we put it in. Looks good. But when we actually set it in place at the diff. The bolt pattern is different. So, i dont know what to do.
Today we are going back to the autoparts and see if the have one that fits. Or i guess we are going to have to take the one from my dads 85 out. He was thinking of stripping it, any ways.
Heres, what Im having a problem deciding.
A few months ago I went with my friend to checkout an rx7. Whe we get there it was a GSLSE body with a 12a. The exterior looked ok. Nasty purple paint job but otherwise straight, at least it looked straight. But it wouldnt turn over. OK bye. So we left. But now Im thinking, should I buy it and strip it. I mean Id have a tranny, driveshaft, diff, front and rear suspension extra set of rims. The interior was a little, ok really beat. But they were asking like 400 bucks.
Do you guys think it would be woth it for those parts alone. I know a friend of mines is looking for a spare 12a, so thats a couple of extra bucks not coming out of my pockets.
The reason why I havent done it already is because we got too many cars in our driveway already(about nine). And only five are running. HEHE.

By the way, since two of those car that are not running my dads Ford Anglias. Do any of you know if there are any where you guys live. If you need a pic let me know.
Thanks
