What do you think? Fuel pressure regulator? Why would it do this?
Ok.... I am sorry for the stupid questions........
I would like to know, why my car would do this.....
Ok, It RUNS GOOD, AND STRONG, with about a gallon, or less of gas in the tank........ But when I add 5 gallons of gas, it will stall.... I think it is flooding, but I am not sure....
What do you people think??? Fuel pressure regulator??? It is ALL stock..... I have no clue as to whats wrong..... If I need a fuel pressure regulator, do one of you have one cheap???
I wouldnt ask this, but I have little to no money, and if I dont get the car goin, its gonna be sold... The city is getting on to us, sayin any car not running, will need to be towed......I can have one project car...... But I have 2... My brothers truck, car, and my truck are goin for sale because of it.... So we would have the van(I am gonna get it running for mom) The 80(gonna restore) and the 79, which will be sold if I cant get it runniing. I need it running to get my hardship (simalar to liscense), and if it wont run, I am gonna sell it to buy a different kind of car, that I am smart enough to fix........ So please give me any info as to get it running... THANX LATERZ, Andrew

Try driving it with the gas cap off. It's possible that there's a restriction in the system that is preventing air from going back in. Did you pull the rat's nest off and plug the evaporator line? (That's the small line that goes along next to the two fuel lines)

I really don't know...but here are some of my ideas. I don't know if they are any good ideas. LOL
Try...
Adjusting the carb?
Check your timing?
Check the fuel filter?

If it is completely stock, you don't have, nor do you need a fuel regulator.
If you think it is flooding (doubtful), check the sight windows (front and back) on the carb and see if the fuel level is right in the middle. If not, and it is above, you could have a flooding problem. If that is the case, I would start with the float needles and the floats.

Oh, and the carb is CLEAN.... I hope*......... I sprayed, a hole can of starting fluid in the fuel inlet line, on the carb(either) And let it sit over night... Flooded after all the either left the carb, but gave me a run, i will never forget..... And I also did ATF, which helped BIG time..... And also will never forget that run either.......... So what else can I do???

has the car been rear ended? is there rust in the tank? does the fuel pump turn on? have you tried draining the gas out of the tank to test it, or is it just a coincedence that when you added fuel it stopped running?

I think the previous owner, took the manifold off, and didnt replace the intake gasket... would that cause it???

If the intake gasket is missing, don't do anything else, including posting here, until you replace it! There is no way we can help you if that is missing/old/torn/worn out etc.
Replace it and let us know what's up.

The problem is:
You're spending too much time on the board and not enough time under the hood playing with things. You gotta realize that we don't have all the answers and we can't read your mind. You need to include a detailed and highly descriptive post about the exact problem you are having.

Every time you suggest that you're getting "sooooo frustrated, that you're about to say, 'screw it...', and just sell it...", we all wonder what the hell we even bother reading about your problems for! (Just so you know.)
You also seem to **** and moan alot about not having any money. ALOT!
Look; If you're in such a bad way that you feel you have to announce your budget as being only "five bucks for now" on-line, then maybe you should concider selling the rex for an econo-box that gets much better mileage!
Noone here WANTS you to sell your Rx-7, dude.
But this is part of owning a first generation (or any other older car). You don't have to sink gobs of cash to get it right, but you will have to spend more than "five bucks".
Once you get all the problems sorted out, it's great. But you'll still have to give it occassional attention every now and then to keep it running great.
Maybe the trips not for you.
If it were me, and I only had five bucks, and needed dough to fix my rex, I'd turn tricks on some corner somewhere.
Pick up cans on the roadside. Do what ever I had to.
But hey...
That's just me.
BTW, it does sound like your tank is'nt venting for some reason. The whole mess eventually finds its way to the PCV valve, which ultimately "decides" via vacuum signal, when to "open its gate" of pollutants into the carb.
"PCV" stands for Positive Crank Ventilation", and is a valve designed to open when the engine gives it a certain amount of vacuum signal. Then the hose from the oil filler spout that runs to the carb (through this "gate valve") serves as a means for oil expansion and crank water vapor to be sucked out through the carb, and burned up. The valve can close so that when the engine is off, there is never ANY oil or vapors or fuel ever exposed to the environment at all. (Otherwise a car would be polluting the atmosphere just by sitting in a parking lot while the heat evaporated any fuel in the carb area.)
Welllllll, they also tie in the fuel tank vent line through the charcoal canister to this PCV valve. The charcoal canister is essentially a box of rocks. The charcoal sand inside provide ALOT of area fro the fuel vapors to collect on. If the canister gets any condensate in it from water in your fuel (Gas Stations fault...happens all the time), then it gets plugged and serves as just a big cork! Then your tank can't breathe.
Another reason for your tank not being able to breathe might be that at some time, someone over-filled the oil. Then what happened was oil vapor (Oil can vaporize at hi temp suprisingly well!) started getting sucked thru you PCV valve. Well everytime you shut off the car, there was a film of oil left on the inside of that valve, and then as the engine cools, condensation collects as a layer, too. (Remember, the thing is designed not to let anything escape with the engine off.)
When this happens over a period of time, you begin to build up a layer of sludge in your PCV valve, and eventually, it pretty much stops working.
Again...no vent for the fuel tank.
This is all a complete guess on my part. I don't know for sure if that's what happens with the PCV valves or not.
But hey...I took the time to write the possibily for ya.
Just don't keep talking about getting rid of your rex. This is Rx-7 1st gen 101...love it or hate it! It does'nt ever completely end. It just gets more and more easy...
and more and more satisfying when your car is finally running like a top, and you step back after a good polishing and say, "Oh yeah. I'm good. I'm damn good.", cause you took that barely running car and turned it in to something that everybody will admire!
