Exclamation What did I fry?

I was playing with my 81 trying to figure out the damn TPS adjustment test. I had my test lamp hooked up and nothing was working (followed the Haynes manual) I noticed the open connector on the pass side of the carb (the one with two green wires) well to test my lamp setup I stuck the hotwire (from bat) into one of the connectors. I heard something click and then the car died. I went and restarted it, the exhaust overheat lamp stays on and the car runs as if its on one rotor. Any ideas? Need help on this one, I checked all the fuses and fueseable links all good. What could it be?

Thanks in advance

Well that sucks man. I'm not sure what that lose connector does, but check out the wiring diagrams at www.iluvmyrx7.com and the factory manuals at http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/rx7.html as well. Between the two, you should have your answer.

Nothing on the car works, choke wouldnt hold etc. Looked at the wiring diagram found that everything points to the ecu. Well got down to look and there was this fuse holder (old barrel type) so I took it apart and the fuse was blown, new fuse and yooo hooo all good now.

Doncha just love the manuals.

Glad you figured it out, at the risk of descending to the level of the lounge:

man you got lucky, glad it worked out in the end.

Just wondering here, is your 81 fuel injected? b/c if it's not it doesn't have a TPS nor ECU. Maybe i'm missing something here about ur setup...

No its stock, and yepers it does have a TPS (they all do) and a ECU (they all do) under the dash forward of the fuse box (silver box).

well that silver box infront of your fuse box is a CPU which controls your flashing lights and some relays and your dash light and such, nothing to do with fuel or ignition.
And there is no point of a TPS and I am 100% sure they don't have one. So u are probably adjusting something that is not a TPS.

Not a CPU an ECU (emissions control unit) everything goes into the box, no number crunching happens just routes elect signals. TPS is on the front of your carb (gauranteed) down low, it takes the signal from the saft and thats what schedules the switching solonoid for shutter valve and some other fancy things. Go take a look, then come back and at least say you were wrong if not sorry.

I don't even have a 12A which is carbed, but I am sure there is no TPS, maybe something to control emissions, but no TPS.

There is a TPS, get the manual or whatever you need but a stock 12a has a TPS, ask anyone, you still need to say your sorry after you look it up too.

Yup, there is a TPS, and I fried the connector doing it by the Haynes years ago, just like you. Except there was no fuse. The damn connector started to melt! . I think theres a typo in there somewhere. Look in the Mazda shop manual for better info.

Rght next to it, in a plastic in line fuse holder. Weirdest thing, even a bracket that holds it.
