What is this ?

I dont have any idea what this is for. There is a linkage that goes up to the carb. But does it need to be hooked up.

That's your Oil Metering Pump.

It is CRITICAL to the proper operation of your engine. It's purpose is to inject small amounts of oil into the carb to mix with the air and fuel. This oil is used to lubricate the apex seals. Without lubrication, you'll blow a seal, and have to rebuild your engine.

Make sure the linkage is hooked up and the tubes are hooked up and not cracked. If there's anything wrong with this, it puts your engine in severe jeopardy.

Dude, get working on your car If you need help, call me!

Ooh, I thought I'd add that I know where to get OMP Rebuild kits.

Lowe's Performance. They used to have a website but it went down. You can still call them and order the rebuild kits though. I bought two back in October.

Really easy to rebuild, costs like $20 for the kit, and it's damn worth it!

Call them, buy one, rebuild it, make sure your linkage and tubes are fine, and feel confident that your engine is protected and properly lubricated.

ok so how do i tell if the omp is working. I started it last night, and it started right away, then it ran for about a min, and shut off.

Tried starting it again and nothing. So i unflooded it, and then poured some oil down. Started right up. and then smoked and died again.

Im thinking its a stuck side seal, or that the OMP isnt working. So any info be for i try the ATF trick would be great.

Is there an easy way to tell if the OMP is working ?

from what ive read, you disconnect the lines to the carb, and run your engine. then you measure how much oil is coming from the lines. if i remember correctly, you can adjust the amount of oil coming out, by adjusting the linkage. do a search and there is tons of info on this subject

also search premix here, you can add 2 cycle oil to your gas tank. There are pro's and con's to OMP vs premix. This is an emotional subject for some in here.

My opinion is that pre mix with MMO marvel mystery oil, or 2 cycle oil is a nice safeguard until you have confidence in OMP's operation.
