it depends upon why it will not open. Is it too much tension causing the catch to not release (happens alot with wreck damage) or has the cable snapped? If its a tweaed frame or hood, then try pusing down on the hood while some one lightly pulls the latch, once you fel it disengage then you let go and it pops up (you might have to insert a finger and pull slightly though).

If its a broken cable, I can only tell you how I got mine open. I removed the front bumper and reached up to remove the four bolts that hold the hinges in place. I thin raised the front of the hood a coule of inch so that i could reach through with a thin rod to release the catch manually. of cours this then necessitates the cable replacement and a complete cleaining and lub of the cach asembly.

good luck.

i'm sure that if you have long arms and the cable is broken, you can jack the front end up and get underneath and reach the cable that way w/out having to remove much...it may be tough tho lol

This happened to me when my car was being painted. There's plenty of room underneath the car to use a bar, stick, looped coat hanger, or whatever you have lying around. The lever that opens the latch is on the under side of the hood latch, top center of the firewall. The lever moves from left (pass) to right (driver)

well as far as i can tell the car doesn't have any frame damage and the title is clean so i would think the frame is fine as this problem just occurred so im thinking something to do with the cable or latch

but thank you all for your tips, much appreciated

thanks,
Zak

Why not just jack the car up and reach up through the tranny tunnel and manually open the latch? It may be a tight squeeze, but you should be able to reach up in there,

Have you tried opening the driver's door, reaching through and pulling the hood release, then try getting your fingers under the corner and just lifting it up? That's what I have to do with mine since for some reason the spring doesn't work unless the hood isn't down... It sticks a little at first but if you can get your fingers underneath, my hood usually pops out. I think mine may be jammed or something, haven't put too much effort into troubleshooting this problem...

Doh! I just realized my hood is stuck down today. I must've inadvertently unhooked the cable at the latch while doing some wire routing for my e-fan conversion. I guess I'll drive her up on the ramp and try to see if I can reach up there to release the catch.
