Weird Issue with turn signals.

I have an 85 gls-se and sometimes the turn signals and hazard lights work, and sometimes they don't. I figured it was the switches, but when they are working, I can't get them to not work. It's weird. Any help is appreciated.

On a "normal" car, I would suggest checking/replacing the flasher/relays.

But on these cars (at least the GSL-SE) they're built into the computer. Don't know how you would get around that issue. And if I remember correctly, there's not even any way to check the computer unless you have that $$$$$ Mazda tool that plugs into it and checks everything automatically.

Are you sure it's not just a problem with the combination switch/lever having a bad contact?

Have you taken the steering column apart to look at wiring or dirt collecting there over the years.
I have never owned an SE but have had issiues with my GSL with weird problems like this and it was a broken wire in the connecter.

I have not check the connector yet. I thought it was weird that sometimes it works all the time, and other times it won't work. By this I mean each start-up. I will check the connector. Thanks

Very likely flasher unit/CPU connectors issue. Had same thing on my GSL-SE. Easy fix is to pull the CPU and resolder the joints.

My 85 gs had this same problem... It was my flasher cpu. its under the dash above the clutch petal.... Its held on by 3 10mm nuts, and its fun to get to... Lay upside down on your seat to get to it. You can get them off ebay or from a junk yard. You cant buy them new. good luck. if you need a picture of it message me i can send you one
