So now you have to post what you have done/removed to get it to 2200 lbs.

Congrats though, what was the fuel level?

Dats LIGHT! But all the stuff removed explains most of it.

BTW, that's not a FRAM filter I spot, is it?

From an old post:

I went to the truck scales and weighed my '80 today.
The car has had the A/C removed, and the thermal reactor, air pump and ALL emissions equipment has been replaced with a RB header and mini-presilencer.
The weight is with a half-tank of fuel, and the spare tire and jack, etc. in the car.

The weight without me in the car was 2300lbs.
1060lbs. on rear axle.
1240lbs. on front axle.

The following corner weights were with me in the car.
LF=640lbs.
RF=580lbs.
LR=560lbs.
RR=540lbs.

Went to amsoils website. Looks like amsoil, mobil 1, or purolator pure 1 are the only filters to get. Pure 1 getting the nod because it's the cheapest of the 3.

Sorry to get off topic, but could someone explain why I need a certain oil filter over another one? I just have a cheap filter from walmart in there now, since I'm gonna be replacing it every 2000-4000 miles appoximately, I didn't think it would matter much..Educate me..

My '80 was mostly all there to weigh 2210. Just no jack, spare, or rear underlay. Probably would have been 2200 even if I'd removed all the change from the center console.

My GSL is 2400 on the nose with a quarter tank. It's also all there (including the P/S pump!), except for a fully 16 gauge exhaust system, ports to tips (no cats). Just like the '80 had.
And that is with the Usual Crap in the car - spare distributor, various tools, a couple dozen tapes, lots of change, the front "stack" and oil pump from a Series 4 engine...

- Pete (it weighed 3100lb once )

I hate to trouble the OP, but could you weigh some components or systems individually? How much does the HVAC stuff weigh? How much does the emissions crap weigh? It'd be nice to know how much of a weight savings there is.

Assuming you left the engine as a stock 12a (which you damn sure haven't ) with 101hp and a weight of 2600lbs, you're going from a stock weight to power ratio of 25.74lbs/hp to 21.78lbs/hp. Thats really good, it's about the same as adding 20hp. Adding power costs money removing stuff is free.

Some filters filter better. The Frams get bad reviews because they use carboard for the end caps that seperate parts of the filter that have dirty and clean oil in them. Cradboard gets wet and bends and dissolves. I agree with you, regular filter changes are more important than the type of filter. When you're talking a dollar or two to step up to a better filter that could extend the life of a $2000 engine a few thousand miles it makes sense to dig around the couch and buy a better filter.

There are advantages to race only cars; 1967 lbs. at a recent SCCA event. Thats with stock gas tank, (unknown amount of gas), roll bar and stock seats. The 79 even has steel bumpers. I lightened an 83 front bumper, but it won't fit. Thats pretty close to minimum for F/P autcrosser.

Nevarmore, are these just word of mouth filter reviews or is there somewhere I can go to find out which filters are good and bad? Anyone know anything about Purolator air filters? I just got one for my 7 because the one in it appeared to be factory.....

The link I posted is my source of amatuer research the guy basically cuts open a stash of filters and sees how they are made. The idea is that a company that takes time to make a part better has a better working part. It helps to correlate some of the SAE standards/research too. I won't call it scientific, but its a bit more than rumor. Don't trust me alone though, my sources could be wrong.
