weber help

I have a 48dcoe and it seems like there is a dead spot. The car runs fine floored or just barely on the gas peddle but at a certain throttle it seems like it is either getting to much fuel or not enough. Makes the car spit and sputter and it just happens to be where the car cruises the best. I have the right fuel pressure fuel pump etc etc., Anybody have any advice?

First make sure the float level is to spec and the mixture screws are adjusted correctly. After that I'd maybe look at changing the idle jets.

dont know how to check the float level. Ther mixture screws are adjusted to the best of my ability and when I put smaller idle jets in there it seemed to get worse. I already had the biggest idle jets that they make for it so I cant go any bigger I could just go smaller. This thing is driving me crazy.

wouldn't you need to change the size of the fuel or air jets, as opposed to the idle jets, if you're having cruising troubles? i'm not overly familiar with the DCOE's, but i think my Dells are based on their design ... so there should be three types of jets: idle, fuel and air ... right?

first make sure there are no vaccum leaks. I found out with 45DCOE the same problem and it turned out to be bad gaskets everywhere I need to rebuild the carb completely. Start with a fresh set of gaskets then proceed to the jetting. Before the gaskets do the float level check.

Nope, the idle jets not only provide fuel for the idle circuit, (funnily enough ) but also for the transition circuit of the carb. When cruising the carb is running mainly on the transition circuit which is why the idle jets play a big part in controlling the mixtures.

I'd definately take a look at the float level. Having an incorrect setting will cause the carb to come on to the main circuit either too late or too soon which can cause the sort of problem you're having.

Well how do I check the float level of it then. I have taken the float out and I see no way of adjusting it. I also dont know how to check the float level and see if it is correct. I didnt get and instruction book when I got the weber. Do you suggest I get one of those haynes weber manuals or does anybody know anybody that I can get one from.

Yeah, get a manual. I'd recommend getting the orginal Weber manual over the Haynes. I've had a look at both and the Haynes is shithouse in comparison.

Until then here's a scan of the float diagram.

I like this page even if it doesn't cover rotaries.

The old school floats must have been round. Mine are shaped like normal floats.
