Angry Illumination Lights

I just got this car not that long ago and desided to change the deck. There was an aftermarket deck already in there but i went and changed it to anouther one. I had to change the wire harness and all that. Put it in and now my dash lights(lights for gagues and light for lighter and ashtray) don't work. My warning lights and highbeam lights and stereo and everything works just my gage lights and that. Ive tried reading the haynes manual but it doesnt say anything about that. Even if i unplug my deck it still doesnt work. Ive check my fuse box and all my fuses are good. Its just a pain to drive at night. Can't see any of my gages(speedo, Tack and such). I have an '83 gx. Im runnin out of ideas to get it to work. And yes i tried ajusting the dimmer switch.

no, headlights will go up and not light , or will light and not go up , or ....

Also the dimmer is for interior lights only, not for headlamps. My dimmer switch went out and hl still worked fine. changed the dimmer and alls well.

peace

Are your tailights (not brake lights) and other night time running lights (besides headlights) working?

All my outside lights are working and they go up and down. They work. Just not my inside lights

Hey man, I recently did the same thing as you and had the SAME PROBLEM! I did get the lights working though now my clock isnt working right. I pretty much went back through and made sure everything was connected right -if someone was in there before you chances are they are the culprit. If you carefully go through the haynes wiring diagrams you can figure it all out.

To bypass my dimmer switch do i just connect up the red with a green stripe and the red with the blue stripe i think it is together and just leave the black one alone???

Errr the black is your ground, so its gotta go somewhere. I did this as well on mine but I can't remember what specifically I did. Lesse the rheostat was a resistance bridge between the positives and the ground grounded. Do something with that ground. Put a hole type tab on the end of it and screw it into the chassis or something -better yet, splice it into any other black wire. I've got an 83. Get rid of that crappy dimmer situation. Do me a favor and unscrew your rear view mirror and tell me what the wiring for the dome light looks like -mine is all hacked at.
