Weather Stripping replacement?

Is it possible that the wind noises are caused by the track around the window and not the stripping around the door? Before I replace the stripping around the door, I want to get opinions. If it's the track around the window, is that a replaceable item or is there a way to make a better seal?

Pete

My wind noise came from the strip around the door and from the strip on the window channel by the mirror. I replaced both from blackdragon and now it's hard to close the door due to the pressure in the car.

It's a good thing since the only noise that I hear is the flowmaster from the rear of the car.

No more wind noise that is for sure.

Cool, thanks. So, how to tell whether I need to replace the stripping on the door or the window? Or, just do one and if no good, do the other?

Both of mine were dry rotted so I replaced both at the same time. It's not much more money to ensure you get the noise down.

It should be pretty obvious if you need to replace them. If they aren soft like rubber should be, if they have cracks or chunks missing (like mine do) then they need replacing. Or you could just spring for the new ones anyway, if yours are original or just old.

Mine all look and feel good, but at above 40mph, I hear faint sounds of wind, at highway speeds, it's loud enough to bother me.

As old as the weatherstriping and gaskets are on our cars, it doesn'r hurt to replace both the door gasket and window channel runners. I've also run across several doors that over time have had the window frames bent out slightly and new gaskets still leaked. The fix for the bent frames is simple, just takes a bit of practice.

To test for gasket leaks, place a dollar bill against the body and shut the door. If the bill pulls out easily, either the gasket is past service life or the window frame is bent. Try this all around the door to find the sourse of the leaks.

There are also a couple of vendors on eBay selling the door seals. Has anyone has tried these? Would like to know the quality/fit of the eBay items. One of the many items that need replacement on mine.

I bought mine trough 1AAuto.com, they sell on eBay. Fit well and have been quite happy with them. Cheaper than oem and Black Dragon.

Sage advice is one thing, being a mod is not one of my goals or desires.

Didn't someone have real good luck with generic autozone weather stripping? Let me search right quick.

Sometimes the top window frame can get bent out. If the gap seems bigger at the top od the window then the bottom, then that could be part of you problem. Especially if the weatherstrip look good.

Put your knee into the inside of the door and pull lightly on the top of the window frame. You only need a slight bend to return the frame to normal.
