Weak Spark

all right im having trouble with my REX. I have a weak spark on my trailing, and i know its not the plug... but what would be creating a weak spark ? Possibly Cap and rotor?? or maybe even the coils ?

i was having the same problem a couple days ago.....Check your wires(high tension wires) or switch the leading w/ the trailing stuff/////also it Could be a weak ignitor or coil .....

well if it was an ignitor dont they either work or not work , since they are a solid state electronic. I played with the wires and they seemed to be fine.

Take a look inside the cap. If there is any sign of wear in the cap, or on the rotor then replace them. Not too costly and should be done anyway.

Next, as stated above take a hard look at the high tension and plug wires. Check for cracks, and follow the instructions in the manual or on this site for checking the resistance.

Next, check out the coil. Maybe try swapping with your leading to see if the problem moves.

But other than that, why are you even concerned about the quality of the spark in your trailing ignition? A weak spark there should not even be noticeable, and will make no difference in performance. Is this an emissions concern?

Gently turn the mixture screw in until it seats (gently!). Then turn it out 2 to 2 1/2 turns.

weak trailing spark will not make a difference in performance or in start/no-start situations.
