Water temp probe placement.

What is the best place for a water temperature guage probe. I am installing a water temp guage so I have more accurate numbers than the stock one gives. I was thinking the coolant level sensor hole in the top of the rad, but its not deep enough for it.

I used the choke temp sensor hole on the water pump. The adapter bushing to fit the NPT sensor to the waterpump can be hard to find though. You could also take the pump out and re-thread it for NPT.

Seems like the best location to me, should be the hottest point.

so now my question is, can I just use the choke sensor instead of the normal temp sensor? that would save some time.

No, chances are that it won't be compatible with your gauge. I'll wait for someone else to confirm that...if I'm wrong I'll be busy slapping myself because I had to special order that adaptor and wait 2 weeks for it to show up.

I got the guage set for $30. Its all mechanical guages too. I don't want to go out an buy a seperate temp guage at a much more expensive price. Where is the stock temp guage sensor?

sunpro makes the adapters, thats where I got mine. Theyre cheap and you can order them online. Cant remember the thread size for the stock choke switch off hand though.

Thats not a temp sender, its merely a temp switch. Meaning not variable output, just on/off.

Cause more than likely it wont be calibrated to work the same. Your readings will all be off.
