Water pump gasket question

Water pump gasket question

snapped a bolt that holds the pulley onto the water pump so i took advantage of this and decided to replace my cast iron water pump with this aluminum one i haver lying around.

but cant seem to find gaskets for the water pump and housing, would the gasket gell stuff work?

ide just get generic gasket paper and cut your own.. Or rtv black.. Ive used it on water pumps before with success.

i have the gray material, but was thinking the cork material would be best...

Cork is more for oil based sealing. For coolant the gray paper works fine. That is what most water pumps come with from the parts stores. You can sometimes get away with just using RTV but it's better to have an actual gasket with a little RTV to fill imperfections.

Broken bolts suck...

I've had a lot of luck with "right stuff" from Autozone. I've used it on my oil pan and every other sealing surface and I have yet to have any problems. No leaks whatsoever.

The Right Stuff is good stuff! Never used it on cooling system, but works great for oil sealing.
