Washing
any decent CAR-spec'd wash soap. Just don't use dish soap since it will pull off your wax.
Running a Clay Bar (meguires and others sell these) over the paint prior to the wax makes for a pretty amazing/smooth finish. Gets all the embedded grit and stuff off the paint…that the wax otherwise just covers over.

Last summer I was good friends with a local detailing shop and got my car detailed for the price of almost $200 FOR FREE! Haha, but I haven't had a wax in while, for now I just run my car through a automatic wash every Friday. I use Turtle Wax Trim Restorer on the black plastic pieces, moldings and trim because it makes them stick out great with a glossy look for a while.

I use a bunch of Mothers products - just because I've accumulated them over the years mostly. They always have seemed to do well for my vehicles and I'll continue using them till they run out. I may even buy the same thing once I'm out!
