Wants to stall when hot?

My cars finally running but now when it gets warmed up it wants to stall. Idle drops and black unburned fuel comes out of the exhaust. If I rev it up it clears up and idles where its suppose to but 5-10 seconds later it wants to stall again. My tach remains to work properly so I'm going to check out the leading coil and igniters(has dual leading direct fire mod). Any other ideas?

Thanks, Ed

Is it a mikuni, holley, or weber carb? It used to be fi, is that correct? When you took the engine out did you do anything to the carb? rx7doctor

I'm using a Dell. I took it off my other SE motor and did not change anything on it except the top cover where the float attaches to(the old one had one of the tabs broken).

Recheck your float level, your dumping fuel, maybe the needle seat got some debri in it, or
you disturbed the mount for the floats. Hopefully that's all it is. rx7doctor

You need less fuel when it is hot out. When the outside temp is cool the air is denser, this
requires more fuel. That's why most vehicles run better when it is cool outside or when you put a cold air intake system on. Also forget to tell you to check your choke system, if you have one hooked up. rx7doctor

Well, when it's hot it requires less fuel. When cold the air is denser and requires more fuel.
Thats why most vehicles run better when it's cool outside.or the engine runs at a lower temp. Also why cold air intakes are so effective. rx7doctor

I'm not using the choke. I never had it on my old cover so I kind of got use to starting the car without one. I'll let you know.

I reset my float today to 14mm and 25mm, cleaned out my jets and leaned out the idle mixture a bit. It now idles at 1000rpm without the idle speed screw being turned in all the way like before and wanting to stall but my exhaust fumes still smells rich.

Thanks, Ed

My 12A was doing something similar to that last summer.
Only in traffic on days where the temp got to be 95 or higher outside.
It didn't overheat at all...but it was running real close to the 1st line on the right on the temp gauge.
It would just stall out and I'd have to hold the idle up to keep it from continously stalling.
Replaced the thermostat (it didn't have one in it when I bought it) and cleaned up the area around the radiator (lots of leaves and crap).
New Fan clutch and....
No more stalls!
And she runs much cooler (like 1\4 to almost 1\2 on the temp gauge).
But again it's 12A and I don't know squat about the 13B.

Well, you probably need to do some rejetting to get it run like you want to. Need to find
someone that still has info on the dell's. It is going to smell alittle rich because you don't have a cat on it to burn off the hc's. Keep plugging at it, you will get it right. rx7docotr
