Thumbs up Wadda ya think of my new shift boot?

I acquired this from a most excellent eBayer that makes and sells custom shift boots. When I initially contacted him he didn't have one for a 1st Gen so I helped him prototype one for our cars. I think it came out pretty darn well! He's working on getting me a brown boot instead of the black. So.... wadda ya think?

inittab, how is the boot mounted? Every ReX I've seen has the little pegs (that used to hold the boot base up)busted off the shifter console

A boot out of an SA (79-80) is a good replacement also....

Pegs are cronic for breaking off. Hot glue gun should do the trick.

But, that one looks excellent. There is also a guy that makes these out of real leather that sells on E-bay.

nah, hot glue melts and lets go when the interior heats up in the summer.

The guy who makes the boots suggested I use 2 sided tape, but the adhesive on it won't hold for more than a few weeks, if that.

3m tape kicks *** man You have to get a nice cleaner that eats up the armor all residue and old paint on plastic etc... stuff I got at work is called PPG vinyl and plastic conditioner. smells really good too I might add LOL Nice buzzzzzzz

I used silcone on mine tho, nice and stinky but did the trick

And on a side note, I did an old ford van once and didnt wanna run the amp all the way through the conversion vans glued down mess of carpet so I stuck it to the top of the engine cover with 3m tape, 3 years later he came back for the removal it BENT the bottom of the amp when I had to remove the amp!!! Tough *** ****! I use it all the time!

All but one of my little plastic pags were broken off so I removed the last one and all the blobs of glue. I installed the new boot using 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive Part No. 08008. The stuff sticks like mad, I think it'll hold.

The way I did it on my old car, (and will do again) is to make a small frame that is a few inches tall under the boot circumferance.

Basically a wooden ring (square) made out of 1x4 inch wood, and attached the boot to it. Then I just placed the stock trim over it.

Worked for me.

There's already enough aftermarket support for the 2ndgen stuff...what the heck are you doing shopping in this little corner? Got some SA fever, esse? Anyhoos, I prefer the boot my wife stitched up for the '80 that I recently lost... We're talking minimal cost here with inhouse sweatshop labor and she's not even a chiquita (to my Mom's chagrin...)...

My RX had the same exact brown interior.
Mine was just as nice too.
I hope my buddy is taking care of her.
