Victoria British electic fans

I just searched the forums and could find anything about the Victoria British electric fan setup for first gens, is there anybody out there who's using this system? Is it worth the money or should I just get the black magic or mr. gasket fans everybody else uses. I want to run it off of the thermostat so I don't have to remember to turn it on and off. Is there anybody out there?

I recenly purchased a VB fan for my 2nd gen. Works fine. However I found the exact same fan at Advance Auto for $50 less 2 days later. IIRC the brand name is Imperial.

i have this fan and i am not impressed at all. i guess it depends though, on what you want out of it. in the winter it is good enough, but in the summer when i run my a/c, it isn't enough. i don't run hot, but i am really close. i wouldn't buy one from vb anyway. advance autoparts sells the same fans and they are a lot cheaper. ofcourse, i didn't find this out until i bought the vb fan. i know someone who got an 18' fan from advance, and they said it works great. you should be able to mount it on the radiator as a puller and it should work a lot better than the vb fan. another plus is that you don't have to pay for shipping! advance is a lot better choice than vb. i wish i could do it over again.

I hope an 18 foot fan would work great

All the aftermarket fans tend to work poorly because they are not shrouded. Get a fan for a Fiero, fits perfectly and works awesomely, and about $30 from a wrecking yard. Other similar GM fans work too.

Fiero sounds like the way to go but is there a way to hook it up so it runs off a thermostat so I don't have to throw a switch to turn it on and off?

How does the thermostat kit work, do I have to drill and tap a hole for a thermostat?

Yup, it comes with a little mounting bracket and every thing you need to wire it up, I've only had one problem with mine....... the effing think doesn't work!!! I have messed with it for hours and have it wired up exactley as the instructions say and the fan stays on all the time.... DAMMIT...and I lost the recipt.....

I bought the Imperial fan from Vicky british too, and as stated above, found the exact same thing at Advanced for like $30 less about a week later.

exept for the rear hatch struts, every thing I've bought from Victoria British has been total crap, from lop sided tranny mounts to crooked motor mounts and a fuel pressure regulator that sprayed gas at me..... IT'S ALL ****

Sorry, I got iff topic there for a second...

The only drilling I did was on the thermo switch bracket itself. I drilled the center hole on the mounting bracket large enough to accept one of the mounting screws that held the fan shroud. I then bolted the thermo switch to one of the former shroud mounting holes, next to the battery. The themometer pickup is attached to the radiatoer core in the lower right quadrant near the return line to the engine. It is held in place with a though tie that works similiar to a zip tie ( thse are one time only ties so make sure it's where you want it). If you have an ac condensor you will need to pull the radiator out to attach this tie ( and the fan ). Run the power wire to something that is switched with the ignition and the ground to the battery. Bring the engine up to normal operating temp and set the termo switch so that it just barely turns the fan off at that temp. When I first put mine on I wired both wires directly to the battery, thinking I would reap the cool down benifits. 24 hours after install, I had a dead battery. The 2nd gens have a fuse block on the left shock tower that has one opn slot that is keyed, I wired into that and have had no trouble since. I'm not sure where to wire in the 1st gens, soon to find out though.
