Vent Idea.
I was looking at the "grill" type thing that sits between the base of the windshield and the end of the hood, and I was thinking, 'If I were to cut some holes in there (the top of the firewall where it's nolonger really firewall and sits between that vent and the enginebay), I could vent hot air out of that grill...' so then I was wondering, if that's at the base of the windshield, it's a high preasure zone, meaning that's probably where the "vent" setting for air inside is from, and that would probably mean the air would infact NOT be sucked out, but, rather, pushed into the engine bay. At anyrate, it's still going to offer some extent of cooling.... What do you guys think? At a stop it's somewhere for excess heat to leak out of, and when you're rolling it's added cool air getting blasted in...

Well now I'm wondering again, what if you just cut vents near the top, as to avoid letting rain drain into the engine bay, and cover up the exposed metal with paint of some sort afterwards. There will be MUCH LESS water getting in from rain than I imagine you'd get with a hood scoop, I'm sure it's doable.....

It's far easier to vent all the air being rammed through the hot radiator immediately aft of the rad and up over the engine, out the hood. This is why everyone from Datsun to Lotus does it this way - it's also aerodynamically friendly, as the air pressing down on the curve of the hood vent in front of the front 'axle' actually provides downforce.

I think that mod would work well. I think that although it's a higher pressure area than some places on the car, but it's lower than inside the engine compartment. It's all relative. Pull the hood release at 60mph and watch the hood pop up. The faster you go, the higher the hood goes. That tells me it would work. But experiment with popping the hood to see if it really makes a difference. I thought it would help mine, but I was not able to see any improvement with the hood unlatched. I almost did this myself, but I couldn't give up the vent.
