It depends on what you have. If it's a stock 12A with a lot of miles maybe 400-600 dollars. Check the classifieds to verify. The real problem is finding someone close enough that needs a 12A. Shipping or driving costs will quickly drive the actual cost of the engine out of the realm of feasability for most people. Try listing it in the local forum(s) if there are any in your area or the regional forum here. I've been looking all over for a good 12A but the distances are prohibitive. Don't worry about people giving you a hard time about the 2.3. They may tease you about it, but it's mostly all in good fun. The 2.3 would make for a nice package in the RX7 body.

The value of the 12a is however much someone i willing to pay, so you just gonna have to wait and see, i have been in this spot before (i was buying though), I did a 4 hour drive (8hours total) for a Rx7 with a good 12a (which i swapped into a better rx7 aesthetically and mechanically). You will find someone who will pay good though

You'd probably get more for it if you could document a valid compression test right before it is pulled; once it's out of the car it becomes a much riskier purchase decision for the buyer. They're hard to evaluate condition on, when you can't hear-see them running.

Mileage is also a factor, but in reality it's almost impossible to prove the mileage on a motor.

Well 400-600 sounds good, Also do you think that if i sold the racing beat road race header and the transmission that i might come close to offseting the cost all together? And the cars really strong but i can really think of a way to document the compression test so that the buyer will know that.

I wonder if i could sell the motor on the classifieds or craigslist and leave it in the car until someone wants it and they can come and see it run.

You could probably get your local Mazda dealer to do a compression test for you; their gear prints out the results. Instant documentation, with dates and mileage. Don't know what they'd charge, though.

You need to leave it in the car to get the best price. Seeing it and driving it will bring the best price for certain!

I get mine between 100-400 all day. Just picked up a rebuilt motor complete and stock trans for $400. This was good timing as the papers show the rebuild was done less than 30K miles ago.
Picked up a running 12a automatic in Ky 8 months ago for $300 complete

Really depends on the need for a 12a in your area at the time and the condition.

Timing is everything, be prepared to sit on it for a while and/or pull it the next day if you have a buyer.
