Yeah, look at ALL THAT WEIGHT in front of the tires

If you don't know what you are talking about, kindly be quiet.

Jesus, I guess ******* turbos, FMICs, big *** 3'' exhausts, and all the extra **** you need with a 13BT are made of ******* air! That way NO weight is added. Sometimes I wish I'd never sold my Trans Am.....

You might as well give up, Winnepeg, you'll never convince them. Ghetto, I added ~200lbs to my car, weight distribution as 51.4%/48.6%, about the same as a GSL-SE. SE brakes handle it just fine.

I think I'm going to build one out of principle. Anyone want to buy a 12A, Weber, and RB exhaust?

Update-
I went to the junkyard today and saw this 87 lincon M7.
It was in a crash but it was just from behind the whole front end is in perfect condition.
I just might buy the ford conversion kit from grannys(its only 200bux) and that whole car(the guy wants 300 for the engine and 150 for the whole thing)

Take your hand off it ********. You build your 302 boat anchor and I'll build a Weber blow-through turbo 12A and we'll see what the outcome is. n/a is a different story.

Hey man I said stock 12a. I tried going the turbo route and no luck. I didnt even no where to start. If your gonna help me do it for under $500 Canadian then I'll keep the 12a in there.

I'm dropping in a ford 2.3turbo in my 85 GSL. It is a copy of the 2.3turbo that is in my 2900# mustang that runs 12.00's at 110-112 in the 1/4. I have the motor and trans in the car, the only problem I am having now is the front sit to damn high. Going to have to get some lowering springs for the front to get it to sit level. Those rotaries may look small, but they are darn heavy.

Later

Thats why everyone seems to be against it."It adds to much weight to the front of the car" and then theres the ppl that just want to keep the rotary in it.

Does anyone know if a NorthStar V8 would fit in there?
I think they weigh less than a 12a.

I guess no one realizes that a V8 carries the bulk of its weight lower than a rotary. If anything, it'd HELP the polar moment of inertia, or at least help offset the little bit of added weight.

Hm, Trick Flow heads are only a grand a pair. Again, anyone wanna buy some 12A running gear?

This turned into quite the heated debate again

Ok for everyones sake, my IC weighs 18 pounds, my new radiator weight 5 pounds more than the stocker. The t2 tranny weighs a shitload more than a 12A tranny (id say probally 30 pounds more) My 3" exhaust probally weighs in at a hefty 40 pounds muffler and all...

Just cause a rotary is small doesnt mean it isnt heavy. Its actually very heavy..

I honestly ebelive that with a 302/350 with aluminum heads and intake, will hardly be any difference. Actually I wish I could find where Derrick weighed Tom's 88 vert with a 400 in it... You'd be very suprised its not that much heavier, and its a LOT of fun to drive...

So if you dont know what your saying dont say anything

Last chance here everyone. The namecalling stops here and now or the thread gets closed. I'm pretty disappointed, I thought we had come far enough that topics such as V8 swaps into 1gens could be discussed rationally. Guess I was wrong.

Here's a good rule of thumb. If you think the swap is a horrible idea, that's fine, but don't simply post here saying how stupid you feel a person is for wanting to do it. To each his own.

Ok so tell me this: Isn't most of the weight of a piston engine above the crankshaft? And on a rotary, isn't only half the weight above the eccentric shaft? The center of the two shafts needs to sit at aproximately the same height under the hood doesn't it? If so, then I'd say a V8 has more weight up higher in the engine bay than a rotary (if the tranny and driveshaft are at the same level as a stock Mazda). Am I missing something here?

I think Toms was balanced better than that from side to side. But goes to show everyone, it aint that much heavier

And I bet you bottom dollar its way way cheaper...

Actually the bulk of the weight is the reciprocating assembly, and the bulk of that bulk is concentrated at the crank. Which coincedentally winds up a bit lower than the e-shaft. A cam, pushrods, carb, intake, rocker arms, heads (provided they are aluminum), dizzy, etc. weigh about the same as half of a rotary.

If you ever had to flip a V8 over on an engine stand you would be able to see what I'm getting at

I started writing about the hundreds of V-8s I've worked on, and how the crank sits above the oil pan, and below the main mass of the engine block, the pistons, con rods, heads, valve train, camshaft(s), intake and exhaust manifolds, etc.

Ya know what? It doesn't matter. If driving a tiny FB with a big *** V8 in it is your thing, enjoy. If keeping your car a rotary but bolting on a truckload of mods floats your boat, yay. If keeping it bone-stock but mint is what makes you smile, have at it.

This is a forum for people who like the ReX, in whatever form.

Enjoy.
