URGENT gas problems

so there are four metal lines leading from the gas tank right? coming up the firewall. one goes into the regulator thing, the holley pressure gauge on mine. if you're looking at them from the front of the engine, the second on the right line, goes up....behind the the carburator. on mine it is a dellorto, so this line was plugged. well, my mechanic told me thats supposed to vent the vapor in the tank. and thats why ive been having hesataion when i floor it. well, i unplugged it and sure enough there was no more hesitaion. and it was running good, untill today, the thing starts pooring out gas. should it be plugged or what? thanks if you can help me

Ok, if you promise not to set it on fire I'll help you. j/k

Looking from the front. First one is your vent line, second is your return line and thrid is the main feed line. They go from thin to thickest in that order.

Well they are 3 different sizes, which one is leaking? It's more likely that the return is leaking.

diagram

i hope this picture works

the red line, which is the thinnest, leads to the black canister, then back towards the block, and is separated, cut, from the hose that leads to the block (ive got an aftermarkey carb by the way)

I think it would be easy to set it on fire now.

so is it possible the canister is not letting it vent, if the first line is the vent line, building up pressure, causing it to come out the return line?

The thick red line is your crankcase oil vapor vent, its not hooked to the fuel system at all. The thin red line should hook to the thin line that runs back to the check cut valve and then onto the tank, thats your tank vent line. The blue line is your main feed line, no brainer there, it hooks to the carb to supply fuel. The green line is your return line, either cap it or use it to return excess fuel to the tank.

Your ultimate problem sounds like a clogged vent. Un capping the return line was making it act like a vent, which its not and that may be why gas is spewing from it, but its helping your venting problem. If you dont have a return fitting on the carb, then cap it off. If you still have a venting problem, remove the gas cap and drive around and see it that cures the problem. If it does, then you have a clogged vent line or check/cut valve or cannister.

so could it not be venting because of the canister? can i take the canister off, and lead that line going into it somewhere else?

you're saying the green (middle thickness) line is the return line? is this spewing gas just because or becuase there is pressure?
