carb hat and cold side of the turbo are the same reference. 6lbs of boost in the hat = 6lbs of boost on the turbo.

ok, the first two shots are how i have been trying it. the second shot shows where i Tee'd in to the wastegate line. then the last shot is of what i just re-did and how i will try it tomorrow morning. what do you think? :/ ALSO, i hooked up my vaccum pump thing to make sure it would atleast correctly decrease fuel pressure as i pumped it and when i let off it would go back up to where i had it set. worked great. now if i could reverse that damn pump hahahaha.

what exactly happens when it tries to get on boost? Does it detonate? Does it flood with fuel? What happens if you slowly rev as high as you can then punch it and hold it(do not do if it detonates), does it ever even out and pick up?

I tried running with fouled plugs with stock ignition, every time I tried to get on boost it put out the spark, killed the engine for about 10secs, so if I held it high and punched it, it would clear the **** off the plugs and pick back up by about 3k, then it's drive great for a while.

well i had a big problem with not being able to rev high and it was dieing...then sometimes it would run AWSOME and everyone convinced me it was a fuel problem. so i replaced the pump and a regulator and spent $150 and turns out it was the plugs...so i thought it might be a good idea to just take a look...i mean it cant hurt anything

Cool, I am usefull for something lol

Hell, just get a BRAND SPANKING NEW set of plugs. I was told to use the 13b Turbo II plugs in leading and the one specific for your engine in trailing.

I've had good luck with NGK B8EG's and B9EG's. They're actually motorcycle race plugs, but gap 'em to .015" and they work great.

ok, honestly i don't really know what "detonating" sounds like. when the boost starts to come up it sounds like i'm hitting a really fast rev limiter. dunno if that makes sense.

ok, i put in turbo II plugs and it no helpie. we have found out the regulator is raising fuel pressure when its supposed to. now my last hope is timing? i dunno.

p.s. ROBERT!!! hahaha, what do you think??? is it ignition? i can hold like 1 or 2 lbs of boost at looow rpms in 4th gear. it's so weird.

Only two other things I can think of to check before blaming it on the carb. One make sure the FPR is raising pressure with a load on the engine. Just get some longer hoses and set it infront of the windshield. See what it does.
Second, call Robert at Rotaryshack. No offence Carl and Sterling but this is your first one and he has the experience with the Nikki in this aspect. You said you modded the carb for more flow and the turbo forces more than what it would just flow N/A. So the jetting might be way off and you said you had no way to test it under load. Once you put that bad boy on an engine its a whole new ball game.
What exactly is the car doing? Does it get sluggish and non responsive or snapping popping and pissing a fit?

Sounds like detonation If you're using TII plugs and you timing is no more advanced than stock, then I'm gonna have to say you've either got the wrong jets in the carb, or the carb is modded wrong.

snapping popping and pissing a god damn fit under even the slightest hint of boost. even when its in neutral it almost doesnt make it to 0 vaccum without actin a fool.

The pissing a fit, I believe is a lean condition. It needs to be jetted up.

ok. lets continue this one then. lol it is so damn many pages. oh wellz!!!

quote:

well, i got a couple friends over today and we messed with literally everything. fuel pressure rises when supposed to, timing is good, retarded as possible, new tII plugs, all plugs are firing, it is spooling and starts to make boost but the carb will not accept it. carl you have been sent a pm. i am getting a boost prepped carb that i know i can slap on with no problems. i thought i was ready to mess with the trial and error of this carb but after all the hassle it's caused me and all the detonating i've gone thru and trying so hard not to believe it was the carb i just gotta make it easy on myself. i've spoken with a couple people that boost prep carbs and they all said theirs did what mine is doing when they couldn't get it to work right. it would have been such a beast. i am going with someone who's done this a million times and has already made gobs of horsepower with the exact setup he will be sending me. i just want to be able to start adding, not chasing my tail.
