Unmuffled 12A - Such a Sweet Sound!

I am redoing the exhaust on the track car. I removed the RB street header, opened up the back part of the Y to 2.5 inches (2 inch to 2.5 inch), Sand Blasted and High Temp Painted. I don't know how long the paint will last, but it looks pretty cool now. Once it was dried, I installed the header and idled the car for a few minutes a couple of times in order to heat treat it since it wouldn't fit into an oven.

I also welded about 6 inches of 2.5 stainless to the end for the welding shop to hook up to. The muffler will be a magnaflow. The whole system will be 2.5" to the muffler.

The downward pipe was spot welded on so that I don't burn up the bottom of the car on the way to the shop tomorrow. It'll be easily removed tomorrow in order to install the rest of the system.

For your entertainment (and mine... trust me ), I've taken a video of the car running with just the header in place. I've got to drive it to the muffler place like this so they can weld up everything else. During the video, I don't rev past 3.5K at all. Also, the only way I can stand it is by wearing ear plugs. It's so loud, it's incredibly painful!

I hope I don't get pulled over tomorrow on the way to the muffler shop. It's about a 10 minute drive.

Enjoy!

I just drove it to the exhaust shop about an hour ago. I had ear plugs on the whole time, but I still have a headache now.

I've drove many RX's to local shop with open headers. 10 miles on the I-5 freeway is fun.

The most recent one was last Saturday. Drove my light blue RX-3 to RX3mist.com's shop to install a dual 2.25 pipes into dual thermal research mufflers (will see how long it will last . 8AM but its only 3 miles away (street driving). Despite there is no back pressure, my son in his FB couldnt keep up.

Btw: Rene (61620B) custom made a header using 2.25 pipes (larger than RB) collected. I may buy it to see how much improvement there is between the RB/RE vs larger pipe.

I just got the car back. Didn't push it very much, but it is now much louder than stock. Great for the track though. With the RB header collected to a 2.5" straight pipe all the way to the exhaust, I hope it doesn't rob any power due to low backpressure.

The entire side of my muffler had rotted so I kicked it a few times and broke it off, and drove around for about a week with just an open straight pipe, it sounded beautiful. I even pulled into a dairy queen drivethrough with 2 cop cars hiding behind the menu thing (they were watching the highway I guess) and they didnt seem to care.

I remember when I unbolted my cat, and bolted a length of pipe in to replace it. I ran it open header on a concrete floor in an enclosed steel building. I honestly thought my ears were going to bleed, I loved it!

I ran mine un muffled for about a week and a half when my flange rusted off the muffler pipe. Still had stock manifold and cat and it sounded pretty beefy. Considerably louder. Had alot of little kids pointing at my car and saying,"Whoa look at that car!" LOL

I just got the full system yesterday. The car is considerably louder than it was with the OEM muffler and RB presilencer. I don't think it's very streetble anymore. It is, but it's very loud. Great for the track, not so good for keeping neighbors as friends. I love the sound though.

I'll take some more pictures today and post another video soon.

Man, I got court in 30 minutes for driving my Rx7. Altered Exhaust Violation. Having a loud Rx-7 gets me pulled over too much.

I just had it this way to the muffler shop. The Magnaflow and 2.5" pipe are all in place now.

Haha, well today I started re-doing the exhaust on my 85GS. I took it out for a little tear with the header open, IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!

If I didnt have to worry about the popo, it would totally stay like that!
