Turboing my 12A:Please Read!

Hey all,
Today I picked up a Turbo and manifold out of a 91 Ford Probe. Which is a Mazda engine, along with a Mazda Turbo. Now, I have someone to fabricate my manifold, but what else do I have to do. Can I do this even though it is Carbed. What kind of problems will I encounter, and how can I overcome them. Need info ASAP so I can have my buddy weld up a manifold and get this done by summer. All help Will be appreciated. Thanks a lot ahead of time!

That turbo will be a little too small but if you are only looking for a little more power and not anything earth shattering then it could work OK. You should get an intercooler of some kind as well as some sort of blow off valve. You can use a stock carb and there is a thread around here somewhere on the subject. You will need to figure out how to modify the turbo to be blown through by a turbo since some things will leak. Also you will need to find a way to increase fuel pressure as boost comes on. It's not going to be something quick and easy if you are trying this for the first time.

Well, the guy who is helping me with it. Is a master mechanic for Volkswagaon, and Audi. So he knows his stuff. He just asked me to find out what else had to be done, before we start.

I think a stock T-II turbo would work much better since it is still a little small for a 13B even though it came on them. You can get them pretty cheap.

The best description is by moremazda in his thread "12A turbo write-up", just search for it and print out then you will have all the answers.

I agree the turbo is a little on the small side and will have only a minimum impact with low boost. Buying a fc turbo and manifold would be cheap and effective.
