The Turbo Project: cont...

Well, thanks to the 2nd gen guys, I have an s4 turbo in great condition. Now here goes the fun stuff. I need to lock out the centrifugal advance in my distributor. Can anyone give me a writeup on this?

Also, I am running a 2 inch exhaust. I really doubt this will flow enough with the turbocharger, even with only 7-8 psi of boost. I just hate to give up my RB presilencer and magnaflow muffler, they flow so well and sound so great. Oh well. Do you guys think that 2 1/2 " exhaust will flow enough?

Intercooler. what size piping? I hate turbo lag. A giant intercooler is only a little more expensive than a small one, so it feels stupid to buy a little one. But then there is turbo lag if I go overkill on the intercooler. Anyone have experience with this? How big is too big and a setup like this?

it is very simiple. don't be scurrred of the dizzy

as for exhaust, 2" piping is a major choke. you will have lag from this alone. step up to atleast 2.5" piping from turbo back.

intercooler.... go ahead and get the big guy. run 2.5" piping off the turbo to the i/c then 2.5 or 3" piping from the i/c to carb hat. i'm sure i know the i/c you are refering to and it has 3" inlet/outlet. this can create pressure drop and lag on smaller turbos but it will get the job done. to help reduce the lag just mount it as high up as you can and keep the piping minimal.

I'm pretty hesitant to go bigger than 2.5 on the exhaust. I hate crappy low end performance, I'm trying to avoid that. What size do you run FBII? I think maybe 2.5 with straight through mufflers should be good enough.

Oh yeah, will the stock FC downpipe fit, (or maybe RB's) or will I need a custom pipe?

stock rb downpipe works and 2.5" will be fine. i personally run my own 3" exhaust. no kinks or dent on the downpipe, all mandrel bent full 3" turbo back. no loss of low end here, the turbo spools up instantly.

the whole concept of backpressure=low end torque isn't completely true. I know that most people on here knock SCC, but check out their letters section from this month, they discuss this exact topic. backpressure does not equal torque. bigger is always better. i can't really explain it all that well, but listen to FBII, and go big or go home.
