Turbo oil return into OMP?
My omp is blocked off right now, doing my research for a turbo project, I know people tap into the front cover for the oil return line. I was wondering if the OMP was taken off could I send the oil return into the front cover where the omp used to be. I figured if the hole was already there might as well use it. Let me know what you think.
I just went out to look at the engine I have in the shed. the OMP is higher then the point to drill out. I would just drill and tap the hole. The turbo is sitting very low in most applications the oil would get caught in the tube/return line till there was enough to go over the edge.
The feed oil line is supposed to be High pressure, the OPM measily 6 cc isnt going to keep your turbo from becoming a thermal reactor. Thats why ppl use steel braided line going to the turbo and not brittle plastic..

Actually, the OMP pump outlet (where it hooks up on the block) is a High pressure location.
Look at the Oil (Lubrication) system in your manual. Oil goes from the pump, into the filter and them branches off from the filter into the OMP location (which appears to be a blind passage when blocked).
If you take out the OMP drive, you may be able to use that location as the high pressure input to your Turbo. I would check volume from there before you choose to use it though.

I had a shop drill and tap the front cover for $65.
You definitely want to do this right or you risk ruining your turbo.
Do it this way and you will have minimal fit up problems. As you can see I had the double flanged pipe modified to accept an AN fitting.

p.s. I thought about doing it the exact same way you're talking about (going thru the useless OMP hole). Obviously I didn't do that.

For those guys with T2 turbos and T2 manifolds it looks like the oil would actually have to travel UP hill to the OMP if you were to try to return it there.
Hey Chuck, do you have a picture where you returned it? Do you have a restrictor on the oil inlet?

The pic looks like someone did a very nice job. I have to agree about the direction of the oil flow back to the front cover. Maybe it's a photo thing.

Here is a photo of my return line. PLEASE don't be haten on how it looks. It does work for me. I used a oil pick-up tube for the oil return tube/bracket. My turbo is around 6-10" strait up from the tube/bracket. 5/8 hose is used.
When installing a turbo on n/a cars with T-belts the easiest place to put the oil retun line is the pan.
For the oil feed line I use a -4 T-ed from the oil pressure sensor fitting. On the T3 60-1 I used and carb jet rigth before the turbo, sorry can not remember what size. On the T4 T66 from Majestic turbo they insalled a resrtictor in side the turbo. Give them a call, very nice people. On a stock S4 turbo I used the stock oil feel line and the retun line went to the pan.
