I got a carb hat but want to run it with my carb and and a cone K&N filter and grab some fresh air from the front of the car(no turbo). Wonder if I will get enough air flow???

Thread jacker!

Ok, here's my question, can you run a non-turbo 12a with a nikki on a carb hat? I have one that I want to put on and run a intake tube to a fresh air spot with a cone filter. Will I have issues with air flow to the carb or will that be enough with out forced induction?
Plus it will look alot better then the blue filter assembly that I got on it now and take up less room in the engine bay.

This is exactly what I've been looking to do, but don't know how to make or where to buy a carb hat or plenum. I have clearance issues with the Camden blower and the Holley 650 double pumper, and figure a cold air intake would solve that problem, plus give me a cooler intake charge. I e-mailed K&N looking for recommendations, got a response asking for more info, sent it to them, and haven't heard from them again. Anyone have pictures of the carb hat/plenum?

Thanks,
Rich

That's exactly what I'm looking for, but I saw that on their site last week and it says:
"Note: The custom plenum is recommended for small displacement engines (less than 200 C.I.) or low revving V6-V8 engines. If the engine requires more than 45 sq. in. of filter area then the plenum should not be used because the carburetor would have to be re-jetted and a loss of high R.P.M. power will be the result."

Our engines are small, but with the blower I think it moves a lot of air. I asked K&N about it in my e-mail, and they have not responded.

Thanks,
Rich

I want this one for the Holley, but it won't fit under the hood: http://www.superiorairflow.com/

The last blow-through system was the Cartech unit on a Weber 40IDF which was pretty nice and did the job very well.

You know robs7 and myself made an intake kit for my 83 with the stock intake and a modified nikki. I will try to post a pic later if I remember.

I think that looks great bad 83! But two questions. 1) Where can I get a carb aht/plenum like that, and 2) why not run it out in front of the radiator to get cooler air?

Thanks!

that hat is actually a modified cold air intake for a s 10 i think, cant remember the details but he had to cut out the one side and i welded up the top for him, turned out good considering how shitty my welds were (i had not gone to my welding school yet so it was a little rough before sam worked it all down sorry buddy) but now it fits great and is working good as far as i know.

well here is my half done carb hat, its not a turbo setup but i am going to duct it out tommorow. i found some "no hub " connectors at lowes that are black and a lot cheaper then the parts store plus for the size of pipe i used it was hard to find. well i have to cut the pipe sections and get some more rubber connectors to duct it out, i think i will go in front of the radiator but not sure yet hope yall like my idea. well the welds still look bad but i did it at work and i could not weld it with AC like i need to because it can fry electrical equipment and CNCs are expensive so i had to use DC which causes crappy welds. i am going to smooth it all out then glass bead it next week. but just getting it all fitted in hope you like it robert

I did the K&N carb hat (mock up pic attached) with a huge K&N filter. It has a huge 4" inlet which offered promise but fell on it's face at 6000 rpm. I think that was largely due to the choke tower being a huge air flow limiter tot he secondaries considering the carb placement on the camden. I have since purchased a Barry grant s/c chokeless carb and will be scrapping the camden carb spacer in favour of hood clearance and giving it another try. What did work well was a GM HEI offset 14" air cleaner base coupled with a 2 1/2" air filter and standard low profile lid with an offset stud that came with the filter base.
