tuning

Well hopefully in a 2 weeks i'll have a t2 on my 12a with an intercooler. its almost ready to go. i have a question about the tuning though, i dont want the engine to blow right off the bat or cause damage to it. it does have the stock nikki carb. i need to know how to tune it so nothing bad happens, also, does anyone have any suggestions about the timing. i dont really know what to do.

What fuel pump and regulator are you running?

At the very least you should lock the timing at a fixed setting but a better way would be to run a boost retard module of some sort. Simply locking the dizzy will make it unresponsive off boost.

I'd suggest taking it into a garage and asking to use their 5 wire Air/Fuel Sensor.

The ones sold by Autometer and such are based off of a simply designed A/F Sensor and are used for general readings.

Only a 5 wire can be used for the type of fine tuning that I am sure you will be doing.

When tuning, try to have someone that has dealt with your type of setup and equipment before diving in head first and damaging something.

As in most things automotive, real life experience > Charts and books.

As for timing, I'd use an MSD module for this. (I know that MSD does infact make one that runs well with a rotary engine). The great thing about MSD is that it uses little plugs that decide on boost retard and starting advances, you never have to worry about missing a turn on a screw or a notch on a rod.

Good luck with the project and I hope the tuning goes well, maybe asking on some message boards (such as this one and on other desinged around your type of carb) would yeild some settings and ratios that have proven successfull.

cheers'

You're gonna have to tune backwards. That means you're gonna have to start with large jets, and work your way down.

Well that all depends on the fabrication job. But the carb'll do the job...it's rated somewhere around 365 CFM, I think. But that's at 14.7 psi. You go blowin' thru it, and it'll flow more.
But as much as I love the Nikki, I gotta say- if you're uncertain about what you're doing, you should copy the most tried and true typical blower carb. (I dunno what that is) This way you'll have alot of feedback from others running the same set-up, and you can learn from mistakes already made by them.
Once you gain a good understanding of it all, you can explore. But boost + experimentation - knoweledge = "BANG!"

is msd's website the best place to get their stuff. or are the other places where it is cheaper? like some places that sell momo are cheaper than momousa.com and also any feedback on which timing module i need would be great
