This is true love ...

Hey All ~

I know there is no tech involved in this and it is totally self-serving, but I just feel like I have to post this. This is the first real smile I've had in about 10 months ...

I installed my long-awaited RB Streetport system today. It took me about 4 hours, but it was worth every second. I've fallen in love with my car all over again. After driving around for the past three years with an exhaust system more akin to Swiss cheese than a performance exhaust system. Even with this busted-*** clutch, I finally have my 13B acting like a rotary should. I've been finding exuses just to drive my car all night and it takes me back to 1990 when I bought my very first Rx-7. I feel like a kid again (even if I ache like an old man).

Anyway, my next project will be to set the timing ... with a light this time. (I set it by ear-n-*** 3 years ago and haven't touched it since) and then try to convert to DLIDFIS. (Jeff, expect some questions to come your way in the next few months ).

I'm going to have to pull it down again because I hear a leak up front somewhere and everything is tight, so I'll probably have to put some gasket sealer in there. I also want to get an oxygen sensor port made on the header, but I'll get it done in time. I just can't wait to take it on the road tomorrow - 200 mile trip. Mmmmm ....

1

PS
I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them into my album.

How long did you wait to put the RB parts on? They've been chrome plating their pipes for a few years now so these must be on the older side.

smart-***! anyway, i thought you had to request the chrome from RB, no?

well, the header has been sitting around since about 1995. it remained bolted to my other 13B when i took it out of my last Rx-7 and i had no reason to touch until i put this engine into this car. as it turned out i had an issue with getting it installed so i was pretty much forced into running the stock exhaust manifold until now.

i bought the muffler this past summer, and i just got the mid-section yesterday. so yeah, it's been a while.

i am planning to post a video clip so that you can hear what it sounds like. to be honest, i was trying to record the before and after clips, but being me, i didn't realize that the shutter release on my camera is what activated the video record mode, so what i thought was recorded yesterday, actually was not.

anyway, i'm going out of town today, but when i get back i'll record and post the clip.

Sorry if I came off like I was being smart, I actually didn't mean to. My header and presilencer came chromed a couple of years ago without me asking for it.

I bought my muffler many years ago (probably close to ten) and it was painted ... for about ten minutes after driving the car. That stuff stinks as it burns off.
