Compression test will reveal seal problems. Spun bearings sometimes make noise and the engine has a very short life span if the bearing itself is turning independent of the rotor or stationary gear.

well the motor doesnt make noise until around 5500 rpm and only under a good load like second and third gear, do i need a special type of compression tester or can i use the same one as on my bimmer.

i spun a rotor bearing sounded like a rod knocking. LOL Compression check will tell if there is an apex seal problem.

Sounds like you may have other problems. Make sure it's not the water pump or alternator making the noise. Where does the noise see like it is coming from?

And yes, you can use the compression tester that you use on your Break My Wallet.

One of the guys on this BBS recommended going on eBay and getting an old-fashioned recording comp tester, so that's what I did, and a guy in Israel (!) is, hopefully, shipping me a pretty good Motometer unit for my $42. Might be a good alternative to the electronic recording tester, that you hookup to your laptop, that's been mentioned elsewhere on the BBS. Here's the eBay item:

The fan should not be making much noise at that driving speed you are refeering to. Sounds like it is engaged at all times. To check the water pump just grab ahold of the fan and try to move it side to side and see if there is play. If the water pump bearing is bad it will allow the fan to have alot of slop in it. As far as the fan clutch goes, check to see how easy the fan spins when the engine is cold. If it has alot of resistance in it the clutch is bad. This will do a few things. 1). make the engine run cooler than normal. 2). put an excessive load on the water pump bearing and wear it out faster. In checking the alt just remove the belt and spin the pulley, if you hear a growling noise then the bearing is bad. Although not very common with our type of alternators.

In reference to the intake manifold being cracked, I don't believe that there could any noise coming from that. But you might want to sparay some carb cleaner and see if you have a intake leak. Your idle should be slightly off if there is.
