trouble shooting?
what are the signs of a cracked or broken apex seal, and spun rotor bearing?
|
Compression test will reveal seal problems. Spun bearings sometimes make noise and the engine has a very short life span if the bearing itself is turning independent of the rotor or stationary gear.
|
well the motor doesnt make noise until around 5500 rpm and only under a good load like second and third gear, do i need a special type of compression tester or can i use the same one as on my bimmer.
|
i spun a rotor bearing sounded like a rod knocking. LOL Compression check will tell if there is an apex seal problem.

And yes, you can use the compression tester that you use on your Break My Wallet.:) |
well ill do the comp check this afternoon, any ideas on how to check the water pump and alt, for noise since it doesnt show until the engine is under load. and i cant hear a f@$#%ng thing with the fan whinning so loud all the time. also i just found last night that my intake manifold has a crack right at the forward most port, could that make some noise?

ive never had anyone call it a "Break My Wallet" thats sharp.

One of the guys on this BBS recommended going on eBay and getting an old-fashioned recording comp tester, so that's what I did, and a guy in Israel (!) is, hopefully, shipping me a pretty good Motometer unit for my $42. Might be a good alternative to the electronic recording tester, that you hookup to your laptop, that's been mentioned elsewhere on the BBS. Here's the eBay item:

In reference to the intake manifold being cracked, I don't believe that there could any noise coming from that. But you might want to sparay some carb cleaner and see if you have a intake leak. Your idle should be slightly off if there is. |
