Not sure why my original script didn't post.

Tried the mech secondary mod from slegers. Everything was pretty straight forward except for the secondaries opening with the throttle. I attached the linkage(s) at the yellow arrows on the illustration. There is no connection to the throttle, though.

I can see where the throttle bar thing moves past the secondary bar thing behind those linkages. If I depress the secondary bar thing it will move the main throttle, but not vice versa.

Does this make sense?

i think i did the same thing,,what was confusing to me was, the secondary has a bigger flat tab that you wrap the wire around (move the secondary linkage from the front of the carb while looking at the bottom rear of carb,,ended up being real easy once i wired the right linkages togeter,,,dont give up......

mech secondarys

my way may be kind of a rig, but it works. all i did was use a small zip-tie on the secondary linkage on the back of the carb. if you get things out of the way so you can see the linkages clearly it will help. operate the throttle and study the secondary linkage operation. the zip-tie goes around the rod and a piece on the secondary throttle shaft. just look at how everything moves when you work the throttle and you should see where to put it. good luck !

I finally got mine hooked up right after a few trys. If i can remember to borrow my girlfriend's digicam, i will take a picture and post it. It really isnt that hard once you find the right size wire and can get it tied tight. Also if you are using an insulated wire, you MUST strip the jacket off. If you dont it will slide right and left on the secondaries arm and wont grip when it is suppose to.

those pictures are looking straight on from the passenger side. you have to remove the anti-after burner valve to get to it though.

Hey look, its VashtheStampede!

btw: That's his car that I took the pics of.

..and yes those were taken from the passenger side of the car, in the cold, while it was dark out, and had no light, and it was windy.

Thanks, error.

This is exactly what I did (used copper core wire from some coax I had laying aroung). This linkage doesn't move when the throttle is pressed.

Behind this linkage is another linkage that is adjacent to the throttle connection. When I engage this linkage, the secondary opens (not all of the way however).

Again, the throttle will not engage this linkage, but this linkage will engage the throttle. ?????

What ever you do, don't do this mod! Here's what happened to me. After doing the mod I got whip lash from the rush of power. As a result I ended up having to endure week after week of daily massages from the wickedly hot Asian chick. Sometimes the pain was so bad it would take two or three Asian chicks all at the same time to make be feel better.

OK, I think that I'm on to something. My throttle is being stopped before the linkage for the secondary is being activated.

There is a long bolt with a spring that hits a spindle thing coming off of the after burn bracket. If I use my finger to prevent the bolt from contacting the spindle, the throttle will move farther and actuate the linkage.

Can I bend this bolt w/o causing problems????

YEP!!!!!

Major difference. Especially in the higher RPM range.
90MPH in 3rd w/o trying. Definate hiccup when they kick in. Still not opening all of the way. Any fix for that???

Thanks for the replies. I was really getting frustrated.

Yeah, I was gonna say, 90? haha. As for them not opening all the way, it took me some tweaking, but I got them to open a fair amount by just having someone hold the pedal to the floor, then I manually opened the secondaries, and then wired them open. Then, letthe throttle close, and make sure the secondaries close all the way. Its a fine line between opening all the way, and staying open at idle. Hope that helps.
