Transmission mounts?

I dropped a new engine and transmission in the other day and bolted everything on except the transmission. It's a 1984 rx7 and a 12a engine with a 5 speed manual. I have no clue how to bolt it or mount it in and couldn't find a spot to do so.

Is the car originally a manual or automatic? The factory service manual shows how to remove the engine and trans. Installation is just the reverse.

On the same topic, is it possible to bolt in a new Trans mount without removing the trans?

When I was under the car installing an RB exhaust I was trying to figure that out...

It's originally a manual and thanks, I didn't even think to check my Haynes.

You can. You would need to use a jack under the trans, undue the trans cross member from the body, and lower the trans enough to remove the rubber mount. You might need to take off the nuts that attaches the engine cross member to the engine mounts to give it a little wiggle room. Not sure if you would also need to remove the drive shaft also.

I literally just did this to my car tonight.
I lifted the front of my car and placed a floor jack under the drain plug area (would probably be better with a block of wood between the jack and trans) and lifted the jack until I saw the trans move very slightly upwards to make removing the bolts easier.
Then from there all I did was unbolt the crossmember and rubber mount. I didn't need to remove the driveshaft. Super simple to do.

Only thing I got annoyed with was my one crossmember bushing is torn and has play, but I can't find them to buy anywhere.

I can get a picture of the entire assembly tomorrow if that helps.

That would help a lot! I'm trying to learn how to mount mine because it didn't come with a transmission or engine so I have no clue how.

There's two large bolts on either side of the metal crossmember holding it to the chassis, 14mm I believe. Then those two bolts in the middle hold it to the rubber transmission mount also 14mm.

Then once that whole crossmember is off there is two bolts on either side of the rubber mount, 12mm. Then that just comes off.

There should be a flat boxy area underneath at the back of your transmission behind the drain plug with two bolt holes where the rubber mount bolts into.

For the crossmember I had 4 bolt holes in the chassis, 2 on each side. I guess for adjustability? Even though it would only fit in the two.

Haha, the only hard part now is finding out the thread size. But it shouldn't be bad if you have a bunch of bolts laying around.

Thanks for the great info!

I think I will have to drop my heat shield and Racing Beat Resonator to get to it, but still doable.

I am hoping a new trans mount and driveshaft rebuild/balance will solve a vibration issue.

Also, BlackDragon may have replacement rubber isolators for the cross member....
