Trans stuck in reverse...

After doing the "search"...i'm confiming my fears here...

'85 SE trans...tried a 3-pointer and the trans is stuck in reverese....can't even bang the stick out of the reverse position with a hammer.

Sure it got colder here in L.A. the last few days, but its not "real" cold compared to the rest of the country....so whatcha think? Rebuild time? Anyone have an estimate on what it costs to rebuild an '85 tranny?

try loosening up the reverse light switch, sometimes they get jammed. the fix is to add another washer behind the switch

^^ I Agree. When I swapped my trans, I forgot to put one of the washers on the reverse light switch, and the car wouldn't go into reverse. When I added the washed back on, it worked.

the switch jams the linkage, and it can just happen too
