tranny differences 84/85?

hey all.. I'm in the process of doing a clutch/flywheel on my car and while the tranny is sitting on the floor I was thinkin...

the tranny in my old 85 SE had a taller 5th gear that I actually preferred, and I think my buddy has an 85 tranny sittin in his garage...

soo... Anything else I shoudl be aware of before I mess with this? any difference between -SE and 12a trannys?

how about an 84 vs 85 both -SE tranny? when did they switch to the taller 5th gear, and which has it?

The only differences I believe in either tranny is gear ratios.

Alright, so no different in 8513b vs 85 12a tranny? (I've never heard of one specifically, but then again, I've never asked specifically)

TTT, So is the tall 5th gear *ONLY* an -SE feature, or was it on all 85s?

I would like to know as well. Also, not to steal the thread, but why is 1st and 2nd gear so short? Is it just that the 13b enjine cannot cope with longer first gears?

84 SE's had a taller 5th gear than the regular cars. (.758)
85 SE's had an even taller 5th gear than ANY FB. (.715)

An SE tranny is great, an 85 SE tranny is even better.
