You fail to understand the measures an insurance company will go to in order to avoid paying out. it's very common for them to sue on their client's behalf. Gotta dot your Is and cross your Ts. "My client's insured party didn't sideswipe him, his unsafe trailer mounting caused him to lose control and hit my client's insured party."

I'm not telling you not to do something, I'm just pointing out that when you engineer something yourself that involves road safety, you are taking liability into your own hands. I can't afford awesome lawyers, so I just go by the book and buy product that someone else has engineered so the liability isn't shouldered on me personally.

That is why I say, one of them store bought hitches is really cheap for what you get...
