Tow bar mounting brackets?

Has anyone ever tried to put mounting brackets for a tow bar (see pic below) on the front of ther RX-7? Is there a good mounting location. This bar has a towable spread from 26 to 42 inches. I want to be able to tow mine behind my truck if I need to.

can you use the same spot that the factory tow hooks are installed on the underside of the bumper? I would think those would work because thats two spots that are evenly spaced and centered. You could take out the hooks and install the tow bar I assume.

Or mount to where they are. That would be the best IMO.

Do you mean that I have to take out the driveshaft or just put the car in neutral?

if hauling on all fours or even the rear 2 then i say disconnect the driveshaft so you run the risk of seazing your tranny... ...you don't want that...trust me.

all you have to do is unbolt it and use a wire hanger to hold it up so it doesn't drag...this is more for long trips i'm referring to...short inter-city towing is okay as long as your speed and distance are limited...but even at that i'd disconnect the driveshaft...its easier than replacing a tranny

Yes, thats only for automatics. I just towed my rx-7 from atlanta to denver on a tow dolly with the drive shaft in place. no problem. that was 1,400 miles.

As far as that tow bar. I have the same one on the front of my truck so I could tow it behind a U-haul. I want to mount it to my 7 now for the same reason you stated. I'm thinking of putting the mounts on the bottom side of the bumper mounting them in the opening between the valance. that way when you take the bar off the mounts won't be that noticeable.

You can't mount them where the tow hooks are. the bar won't mount in that posistion. You need that bar to be as far forward as possable so that you have the clearance you need to turn corners.

Good luck,
Mike
