145 94 FD (sold)
135 Audi S4 (not mine)
115 93 FD (sold)
95 90 FC (current)

Some other stupid stuff too. Gotta love long, straight roads, with no people, animals, cops or other hints of civilization in sight.

After a while you'll see a entry dirt road. Take it and suddenly you're on an abandoned Air Force Base! Miles and Miles of solid concrete runway. Super wide, super long, and super well built, for it handled fighters and bombers on the old "Pine Tree Line" defense grid.

It's pedal to the floor time, No Cops, No Lights, No Stop Signs, No rises, or dips, and No people. Just you your car and miles of good concrete. What ever you do, Don't blow up, or do anything really stupid cause you're miles from nowhere.

'65 Volvo 122 S Rally car....About 110 mph.
'69 Z/28 with 4:11 rear, not really a top end car....115 mph.
'67 Austin Healey 3000, 125 mph.
'70 Volvo 140 Rally car...just a box, but rugged....105mph.
'76 Mazda RX4...front end dancing all over!....125mph.
'89 Mazda MX-6...Electric cut-out in 5th....115 mph in 4th.
'93 Mazda MX-3...V-6, neat little car....125mph.
My RX-7's? Haven't had one up there yet, but will soon. Would be a neat place to try a G-tech....

Only two closed AFB's in Upper Penninsula of MI that I can think of. The one that you most likely visited was Kinross/Kincheloe AFB which was closed in the 1970's.

Here is an interesting link to it: http://www.kincheloe.net/reunion/letters.html

The other AFB is KI Sawyer in Marquette, MI. It now has a very active Lake Superior Region SCCA following of events!

Say what happens if you were to get busted out there doing that? Are you in more trouble than you would have been on the highway? Might be time for a road trip

145~7mph I would say. It was kinda hard to tell. I will try for faster when I get better tires and a longer road or more HP which ever comes first.

P.S. that is in a FD

Speedo said 130mph (more like 120 actual) just last weekend racing a friends Blackbird (#14). Can you say thirty car-length lead? I lost of course.

The cops can't position in the middle because there is no useable middle for most of this route due to construction or poor planning. They spend their time on I-30 and all the tollways when they're not kicking down doors...

My 88 SE and I hit about 100-110 mph everyday on the last straight by my college. Did a top speed run once (at night, lights full up), hit about 125 or 130 and chickened out. Scary as hell doing it on a two lane road in the middle of the woods.

My 84 GSL has never (since I've had it) had it's wheels spin faster than I can turn them. Ask me again in a month or two.

I've got my '85 GS with GSL-SE limited slip rear end up to 110mph at 4500rpm in 5th on **** tires and a bumpy road. Not sure how off the speedometer is after the rear end swap though. I got my '86 B2000 pickup up to 115 at 5500 rpm in 5th and thought I was going to lose my bedliner.

Whats up with some of the Rx-7s only goin between 85 and 115 mph? That is very weak, I have a 79 Rx7 stock, with the point ignition, standard exhaust and a K&N. I have had the car most recently at 127 with pedal left when I ran out of room! Come on guys, some of those Turbo IIs are suppose to be bad ***!

rx7dawg, keep in mind the speedometer is rather inaccurate... on my '80 it was about 10-15% too high! So I doubt you were going 127, unless the K&N magically gave you an additional 30hp...

As far as I know, my speedometer is just fine. If you want to go 127, I ll be happy to take you for a ride. No the K&N is magic but it did help a little, mainly on gas milage. And as far as the post I wasnt refering to exactly to you, just those who brag about goin 85' lol.

last spring after post prom on the way to a party, my date and i were cruising down the big street of town. after coming over a hill and seeing no head or tail lights in any direction, i looked at her, dropped into 3rd and floor it. this was in my dad's stock 95 vette, rather quickly we hit 120 and 130. then slowly we made it up to 150mph (digital speedo) before i had to hit the brakes because were were coming up on some traffic. not bad for a 17 year old, eh? haven't had a chance to make a run in the 84 gsl-se yet, it's been in the garage getting suspension upgrades all winter and spring. maybe this prom when i get the vette i can hit the 161mph listed top speed.
