From the picture it looks like you have the large style sunrof that was found on the 80-85, Is your sunroof metal? And if that the case there where tinted glass sunroof offer from the factory. just search the forsale section.

its a big one , and metal, but apparantly its got a different lift mechanism than the 80 +. I don't have a crank ****. Its a latch that flips the roof up , a pin slides out to remove it completely. I think it was limited to the 79 model

ive got a 83 with a metal roof, and my buddy has a 79 with the same roof. the hinges on the front that secure it to the roof are different, as well as the lift mechanism. however, i wonder if you could obtain a glass roof, and switch out the front 2 hinges as well as the rear latch connecter.. i know they screw into my roof, but i don't know how they attach to a 79 metal roof or how they attach to a glass one. you could definitley fabricate them to fit the glass roof, im positive on that.

The change from the lift latch to the turn **** was an 80 mid year change, so an 80 could have eaither one. Also they are the same size on the cars. Your LE should Have had a Glass roof That was one of its standard features.

pretty sure the 79 Limited Edition never had a glass roof , just metal., then again maybe it was a Canadian difference. I've seen 3 of them that way

i'll keep my eyes open for the SA glass one with the latch. Didn't know a glass one was made that way

I ran into a simaler situation with my buds 79. My sunroof in my 83 GSL is considerably larger than his. I think the 79's will only fit a 79. His is metal also.

You have to watch out for the much smaller aftermarket roofs.

I bought my 79LE from the first owner and she said it came factory with the glass.

I thought I had a good pic of what the roof looks like but I only have a pic of the latch

glass roofs not a factory option; 79 SAs are different from rest of 80-85 models, and a bit rarer, but I have seen them on ebay a couple of times a year. You'll wonder how you ever drove without them when you get one! TOTALLY transforms the driving experience IMHO. When I bought my 80 SA in SoCal I flew down with my glass roof panel (and mailed back the original steel). I was NOT going to take the road trip of a lifetime without a glass roof!

i think i'll try to find an old '79 roof for the hinges and latch and get a glass shop to custom mount them on a medium tint.
