TII tranny in a FB ( I know....again!)

I just finished (or thought I did) putting a TII Transmission in my GSL-SE. I shortened the shifter rod, modified my mount, etc. The motor in the car is an old school 4-port 13B (not a TII motor) with a Centerforce 225mm lightweight flywheel. I wanted to retain my lightweight flywheel and clutch cover so I bought a custom clutch from ClutchNet (225mm, but has the 23Tooth, 1" diameter spline to fit the TII tranny).

My problem:
The TII starter does not reach the flywheel ring.

Possible Solution A:
I spoke to PeeJay and he said that I either need to swap the bell housing to a 74-78 (gonna cost me some money for the bell housing, then I need a starter and probably a new slave cylinder again!)

Possible solution B:
change the flywheel to a lightweight flywheel for a TII. (Those flywheels ain't cheap, and then I have to buy a new pressure plate and attempt to exchange my custom disk with Clutchnet)

Possible solution C:
Somehow change my starter or modify it to reach the flywheel. THIS IS THE ROUTE I WOULD RATHER TAKE. Does anyone know of a method to do this?

Any suggestions or offer for parts lemme know.
Danny

Possible Solution D:

Leave it like it is, and push start the car every time you need it.

All Kidding aside..

Danny, try to find a used Racing Beat Lite flywheel, they are on Ebay and the parts trader from time to time.

I know it's more expensive, (especially after buying a new PP and clutch) - but you won't be limited by clutch options in the future. It also won't be a Rig.

By the way - I mounted my TII tranny in my GSL-SE - with absolutely no spacers needed. All I needed to do was slot the holes a little on the tranny mount. Just a little FYI.

hmm... i do live on top of a hill!

I just spoke to someone I know who slotted the hole for the starter and swung the starter closer to the Flywheel. I dont know how well that would work. I am going to jump under the car and see what she looks like.

Maybe Jeff20B would have more answers for you.

It does appear that you might possibly be able to grind out the starter hole to get a N/A starter to fit, but there are a couple gotchas: I've never bothered to verify that the start bolt holes are in the same location (you'll need to do this), and the starter pilots into that hole, so if/after you get the start to fit, it might shift around no matter how tight you get the bolts. Maybe. Or I just might be overly paranoid again.

I just jumped under the car to see how practical it would be to move the starter closer to the flywheel. It would involve a lot of grinding/cutting away at the bellhousing to be able to move about 1/2" to 1" closer.

I decided against it and yanked the tranny back out. Jeez, it took me only 25 minutes to yank it out. Good thing I did because the pilot bearing was all mashed up.

Looks like your work just got alot easier--good choice. Plus you have more surface area to grip.

So you retained the use of the stock mount in the middle and no spacers on the 2 ends?

I've had my car like this with no problem or vibration at all. On our caravan to Gainesville, I was cruising at 125MPH while drinking a cup of coffee

I'll take some pics tomorrow in the daytime , while I install my monster fuel pump.

You eliminated the rubber mount in the middle. Thats why you didnt need the spacers. It looks like you used the 2nd gen mounting bolt in the middle instead of the 2 bolts on the stock 1st gen mount.

hey whatever works, there is more than one way to do these.

I wonder about the pinion angle and how that worked out. I dont have an angle gauge so I cant say what mine is. I dont know how much I should be concerned with that, if at all.
