TII swap underway

I have the TII engine out of an 87 rx7. after tearing it down, the more sad I get. RTV everywhere. it is a nightmare, but then again i tell myself you get what you pay for. the turbo has about 2 mills of shaft play and when I pulled it off, oil leaked everywhere. (new turbo needed). the wiring harness is shot/spliced/part ford/ taped/ who knows what else. so it might see the trash soon. I gotta go stand alone.

Currently looking around for someone to rebuild it, port it, and convert the 1stgen front cover and oil pan for me.

Parts list:
Clutch/Pressure plate
FMIC and piping
New or rebuild turbo
Stand alone fuel/ign controller
alot of vacuum line
AN fuel lines
Custom driveshaft
BOV (Type-S)
Wastegate
custom exhaust
Rearend rebuild (3.73 gearset and stronger axles)

here some pics:

old engine without the oil pan. SO CLEAN

turbo and new oil cooler

I know how you feel, I bought a JDM engine, and it has turned out to be a hodge podge of an engine!

Keep the faith, it will be worth it in the end!

BTW: That looks like an S5 manifold.

Thats a S5 turbo and manifold for sure.....if its shot, time to rebuild it and upgrade to a hybrid TO4.....Or just get a full TO4 if your gonna run a standalone.

What do you mean modify the front cover and oilpan?
A GSL-SE oilpan and front cover will bolt directly to a S4 engine.....and judging by the 2nd picture, thats an SE engine,no?

I didnt mean modify. I ment to just put it back together with that cover. I know it is a direct bolt up, thanks to the forum, god i love this place.

I am in a toss up for the turbo. I have access to a good turbo through a friend who owes me so I dunno.

Which direction is the shaft play in?

Some side to side play is normal. What you don't want is play when moving the shaft in and out.

it is in every direction. the worst part is the oil seal leaking in the hot side. the previous owner sad it was bad and smoked alot of blue smoke.

Updates:

well I havent been moving that fast on the car because Im not sure whoch direction I want to go with the electronics. Been study wiring diagrams for about a week now and think I can make a good harness. Looks simple.

In the mean time I have been toying around with the interior a little bit. put on the new steering wheel. wood grain nice!

A nice place to mount some gauges

I have gotten the front cover off both engines and checked the condition of the TII engine. No good news was found in the oil pan of the turbo engine(right). a nice coat of rtv in the bottom of the oil pan.

here is the oil pump drive and distributor gear on the old 13B

her is the new 13B with the oil pick up from the SE 13B

look a gasket. I was amazed too.
